Social Media Account Recovery in Singapore (2026 Guide)
Hacked or disabled account in Singapore? Official platform routes, ScamShield 1799, SPF police reports, SingCERT, and how to avoid recovery scams.
Reviewed by Md Shariar Shanaz Shuvon, Founder & CEO of AwareXone.
In Singapore, start with each platform's official recovery form, then report crime through the police or ScamShield when money or impersonation is involved. SingCERT handles technical cyber incidents. Nobody outside Meta or TikTok can force those platforms to restore access.
Summary- Platforms restore accounts. Singapore authorities don't, but you should report fraud to them.
- 1799 = ScamShield Helpline (24/7, scam enquiries). It can't file police reports.
- File police reports through SPF's online e-service. For urgent help, call 999.
- Reports in the ScamShield app aren't official police reports.
- Never share OTPs, including Singpass or bank codes, with anyone offering help.

If your social media account is hacked or disabled in Singapore, start with the platform's own recovery page (for example instagram.com/hacked or facebook.com/hacked). Account restoration is always the platform's decision. If money was lost or your account is being used to scam others, contact your bank, call the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline on 1799 for advice, and file a police report online with the Singapore Police Force. Ignore anyone who DMs you offering to "recover" the account.
#What should I do first if my account is hacked in Singapore?
- Secure your email and change its password. Whoever controls your email can reset your other accounts (FTC).
- Go to the official recovery page:
- Instagram: instagram.com/hacked - Facebook: facebook.com/hacked - TikTok: TikTok hacked-account help - WhatsApp: WhatsApp compromised-account help - YouTube: YouTube hacked-channel help
- Warn your contacts not to send money or codes to "you."
- Keep evidence: screenshots, security emails, the time you lost access, and your original email or phone.
#When should I involve Singapore authorities?
#If you've lost money or your account is scamming others
ScamShield's official guidance for people who've been scammed is to act fast: contact your bank, file a police report, secure your accounts, and report to the platform (ScamShield).
- ScamShield Helpline 1799 (24/7): check whether something is a scam, get advice, and be directed to your bank if you're a scam victim. ScamShield says the helpline can connect victims directly to DBS/POSB, UOB, OCBC, Citibank, Maybank, Standard Chartered and HSBC. From overseas, call +65 6869 1799 (ScamShield Helpline).
- Police report: the helpline can't make police reports for you. File online through the SPF Lodge Police Report e-service, or in person at a Neighbourhood Police Centre. For urgent police help, call 999 (ScamShield).
- Information about scams: ScamShield says you can also share information with the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 or through the I-Witness e-service.
- ScamShield app reports help block scam numbers, but ScamShield says they aren't official police reports (ScamShield).
#For technical cyber incidents
The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore runs SingCERT, which handles cybersecurity incident reporting and advisories.
"In Singapore enquiries, WhatsApp and social impersonation scams show up often alongside platform takeovers, including PayNow" - style money requests after a contact's account is compromised. Singapore Police Force and ScamShield publish advisories on those patterns. SingCERT remains the technical incident channel; recovery of Meta or TikTok still goes through each platform's own forms." - Md Shariar Shanaz Shuvon, Founder, AwareXone
#Can I call Instagram or Facebook in Singapore?
Meta says it doesn't have a general public customer service phone number for its products, and that numbers claiming to be Meta support are potentially scams (Meta Help Center). Use the Help Center, Meta Verified support if you subscribe, or Meta Business Support for advertisers. See is there an Instagram support phone number?
#How do I avoid recovery scams in Singapore?
Scammers target people who post about being hacked. Red flags:
- Unsolicited "recovery hacker" offers in comments or DMs
- "promised" recovery or "Meta insider" claims
- Requests for passwords, OTPs, or Singpass details
- Payment by crypto, gift cards, or to personal accounts
If you're unsure whether an offer is a scam, ScamShield suggests calling 1799 to check. Read our full guide to account recovery scams.
#Is hacking back legal in Singapore?
Unauthorised access to computer material is an offence under Singapore's Computer Misuse Act 1993 (section 3, Singapore Statutes Online). Paying a "hacker" to break into an account, even your own, risks breaking the law and usually ends in being scammed. See hiring an "ethical hacker" to recover an account.
#When should I get professional help?
Consider it if the account supports a business or creator income, you've hit repeated rejected appeals or failed identity checks, you've lost email, phone and 2FA together, or several linked assets are affected (Page, Business Manager, ad accounts).
AwareXone is based in Malaysia and reviews cases remotely worldwide, including Singapore. We work through official platform processes, never ask for passwords or OTPs, don't promise outcomes, and reply to new cases within five hours (9am-11pm MYT, which is the same time zone as Singapore). Clients in Singapore are quoted and billed in USD, with the fee confirmed after case review (quoted in USD after review). In Malaysia, cases start from the quoted fee.
#How do I protect my accounts after recovery?
The FTC recommends changing your password, signing out of all devices, enabling two-factor authentication, and checking your recovery details (FTC). See our 2FA guide.
#What makes Singapore cases different?
- Banks are part of the response. If money left your account, the ScamShield Helpline can direct victims to participating banks (ScamShield Helpline), so call your bank quickly alongside working on the social account.
- Police reports are filed online. Singapore's e-service accepts supporting documents such as screenshots (SPF), so organise your evidence before you start.
- Same time zone as Malaysia. Singapore and Malaysia share UTC+8, so AwareXone's 9am-11pm reply window covers Singapore's waking hours.
#What should I gather before filing a police report?
- Screenshots of the takeover notices and any scam messages sent from your account
- The usernames, phone numbers or links used by the scammer
- Records of any payments (bank reference numbers, times and amounts)
- The date and time you lost access
- ScamShield also lists the details to include in a scam report on its website
#Can I get help if I'm a Malaysian living in Singapore, or the other way round?
Yes. Platform recovery works the same way wherever you are, because it runs through the platform's own processes. Where you report a crime depends on where it happened and where you live. If you're unsure, file in the country where you're based and keep copies of everything. AwareXone's Malaysia recovery guide covers the Malaysian side.
#Bottom line
In Singapore, the platform restores the account, while ScamShield, your bank and the police deal with the fraud. Do both in parallel, keep good records, and ignore anyone who contacts you offering a shortcut.
