Your channel stopped earning, and YouTube or AdSense told you the AdSense for YouTube account was disabled for invalid traffic. You may have bought a promotion package, shared a video in a group that kept replaying it, or have no idea where the traffic came from. Either way, monetisation has stopped and the wording feels like an accusation.
The short answer: if you believe the decision is wrong, the only route is Google's invalid activity appeal. Explain honestly what may have caused the traffic and what you have changed. YouTube's help page says creators disabled for invalid traffic may not open new accounts, so do not try to start again with a fresh AdSense account.
This guide explains what invalid traffic means, how an AdSense disablement differs from losing the YouTube Partner Program, an appeal checklist based on YouTube's own tips, what happens to your earnings, and the limits you should be ready for.

#What Does Invalid Traffic Mean for YouTube Creators?
YouTube's help page on an AdSense for YouTube account disabled for invalid traffic says, "Invalid traffic is any activity on your channel that doesn't come from a real user or a user with genuine interest." It adds that it can include fraudulent, artificial or even unintentional ways to boost ad revenue, and that "Invalid traffic may affect your channel, even if you're not intentionally driving it."
Google's wider invalid traffic page lists examples such as publishers clicking their own ads, repeated ad clicks or impressions from one or more users, encouraging people to click ads, and automated clicking tools, robots or other deceptive software. For YouTube creators, the AdSense account closure reasons page adds that you should skip the ad when viewing your own videos, so advertiser costs are not inflated by accident.
#AdSense Disabled or YPP Removed: Which One Is It?
The two are easy to confuse, and they go to different places. Check the wording on your notice before you do anything.
| AdSense for YouTube disabled for invalid traffic | Removed from YPP or monetisation limited for policy reasons | |
|---|---|---|
| What stopped | The payment account linked to your channel | Access to monetisation through the YouTube Partner Program |
| Typical reason given | Views or ad activity judged not to come from real, interested viewers | Content or channel issues under YouTube's channel monetisation policies |
| Where the appeal goes | Google's invalid activity appeal form | YouTube's own monetisation review process |
| Can you open a new account | No, YouTube says these creators may not open new accounts | Follow YouTube's guidance for that notice |
If your notice talks about reused, repetitive or other content policy problems instead, our guide to YouTube monetisation removed for reused content is the better starting point. YouTube's channel monetisation policies explain the content side.
#Before You Appeal: Find the Likely Cause
YouTube's tips ask you to think about where the traffic came from. Go through these questions honestly. Write down anything that applies, with dates where you can.
- Did you buy views, subscribers or a promotion package from a third party, including ads placed by someone else on your behalf?
- Did friends, family or a group repeatedly watch, replay or click ads on your videos to help you?
- Did you watch your own videos without skipping the ads?
- Did anyone embed your videos somewhere that autoplays or refreshes them?
- Was the channel or your Google account accessed by someone else around the time of the spike?
- Did a single video get a sudden surge of views from a source you cannot explain?
#How to Write the Invalid Activity Appeal
YouTube says, "if you feel that this decision was made in error, you can submit an invalid activity appeal." It also says you must maintain that you and anyone you are responsible for did not directly or indirectly cause the invalid traffic. Based on the tips on the official YouTube page and the AdSense invalid traffic closure FAQ, cover these points:
- Enter the email address linked to the disabled AdSense for YouTube account. YouTube says this helps it find the account and reduce delays.
- Name any likely reasons for the invalid traffic that you found in the checklist above.
- If you bought traffic, say who from in general terms, when, and that you have stopped.
- Explain the changes you have made so it does not happen again, such as no paid promotion from third parties, skipping ads on your own videos and asking friends not to click ads.
- Give as much relevant detail as you can, in plain language, and keep it truthful.
- Submit once. YouTube says that after a decision on your appeal, further appeals may not be considered.
Write the appeal in your own words. A generic template does not tell Google anything about your channel, and a statement you cannot support can harm your case.
#Do Not Open a New AdSense Account
YouTube also says an account can be disabled for being related to another disabled account, because its specialists found that the account poses a risk. Google does not share details about how accounts are linked.
#What Happens to Your Earnings
YouTube says that if your account was disabled for invalid traffic or policy violations, you may be eligible for a final payment for the portion of revenue that has not been identified as invalid. It says a payment hold is put in place after disablement so it can calculate any final payment, and its help page gives the current length of that hold. When the hold ends, sign in to AdSense for YouTube to see any remaining eligible balance and arrange payment. Its page on channel monetisation policies also says YouTube may withhold or adjust earnings linked to violations.
If your appeal succeeds, YouTube says it may take up to 48 hours for ads to resume, and you might have to reassociate your channel with your AdSense for YouTube account.
#Scams and Limits to Expect
A disabled account attracts people offering to reinstate it, sell you a ready-made monetised channel, or link your channel to their AdSense account. All of these break the rules above or put your channel at risk. Never share your Google password or sign-in codes with anyone. Our guide to fake recovery services shows how these offers tend to look.
Google says its systems make accurate determinations in the majority of instances, and that there is no promise of reinstatement. Some accounts are restored and some are not. If the channel itself was terminated, the separate guide to a terminated YouTube channel appeal applies, and if you suspect someone else got into the channel, start with YouTube channel hacked recovery.
#When a Case Review Makes Sense
If you cannot work out where the traffic came from, or the channel is your business, a review before you submit can help you write one clear, honest appeal. SocialSafe by AwareXone is a Malaysia-based service, independent of Google and YouTube, that looks at your notice and timeline and helps you prepare the official appeal. We never ask for your password or codes, we never set up new AdSense accounts, and we cannot change Google's decision. See our YouTube channel help and how we work on our trust page.
