Report Counterfeit Products on Shopee, Lazada & TikTok Shop (MY)

Brand-owner guide to reporting fakes on Shopee Brand IP Portal, Lazada IPR/IPP and TikTok Shop IPPC in Malaysia, plus MyIPO rights and KPDN e-Aduan.

5 min read
Short answer

If you are the rights holder (or an authorised agent), report counterfeit listings through each marketplace's IP portal with a valid IP certificate for the market, a current Letter of Authority if you are not the owner, and clear evidence. This page is for brand owners, not for sellers whose own listing was taken down.

Summary
  • Register rights in the market where the listing appears (MyIPO for Malaysia trademarks).
  • Shopee: Brand IP Protection checklist and portal.
  • Lazada: IPR programme via Alibaba IPP.
  • TikTok Shop: IPPC / ecommerce IPR report; parallel imports and price disputes are usually out of scope.
  • Malaysia fees for AwareXone help are quoted in MYR after review; elsewhere USD after review.

If you are the rights holder (or an authorised agent), report counterfeit listings through each marketplace's IP portal with a valid IP certificate for the market, a current Letter of Authority if you are not the owner, and clear evidence. This page is for brand owners, not for sellers whose own listing was taken down. Marketplaces decide outcomes; nobody can promise a takedown timeline.

#Someone is selling fakes under my brand. How do I report it?

Gather your IP certificate for Malaysia (or the market of the listing), authorise an agent if needed, capture listing URLs and screenshots, then file in each marketplace's rights-holder channel: Shopee Brand IP Protection, Lazada IPR (reports through Alibaba IPP), and TikTok Shop IPR / IPPC (IPPC). Incomplete files delay review.

#Do I need a registered trademark in Malaysia before I can report?

Marketplaces generally expect an up-to-date IP right for the market where the violation happened. For Malaysia listings, a trademark recorded with MyIPO is the usual foundation. Other IP types (copyright, design, patent) may apply when the portal accepts them. Without a right that matches the market, expect delays or rejection. This is not legal advice on whether you should file a trademark application.

#What documents do marketplaces ask for?

Shopee's rights-holder checklist asks for:

  • An up-to-date IP certificate for the market of the violation
  • A current Letter of Authority if you are not the rights holder
  • Evidence of infringement (screenshots, links, supporting analysis)

(Shopee rights holders). Lazada and TikTok Shop programmes similarly expect proof of rights, authority and listing evidence. Keep certificates unexpired and entity names consistent.

#How do I show a listing is counterfeit?

Useful evidence includes listing URLs, dated screenshots of the product page and seller profile, a genuine-vs-fake comparison (labels, packaging, serials), and, where proportionate, a test purchase with retained parcels and invoices. Do not invent lab results you do not have. Store files outside chat apps that auto-delete.

#Shopee: Brand IP Portal

Start at brandprotection.shopee.com and the rights holders checklist. Shopee describes screening for trademark, copyright, design and patent issues and asks filers to match the certificate to the market and the filing entity to the rights holder. Use the portal account tied to your brand team; do not share seller-centre passwords with freelancers you have not vetted.

#Lazada: Alibaba IPP and Lazada IPR

Lazada describes its IPR Protection programme and points rights holders to reporting through the Alibaba Group IPP platform (ipp.alibabagroup.com). Lazada's IPP Handbook (linked from Lazada's IPR materials) explains programme expectations and that sellers may counter-notify. Read the handbook PDF before you file bulk complaints so you know response windows. Unanswered counter-notices can be treated as accepted after the platform's stated timeframe.

#TikTok Shop: IPPC

TikTok publishes ecommerce IPR reporting information at tiktok.com/legal/report/ecommerce-IPR and operates the Intellectual Property Protection Center (IPPC). Programme notes commonly require that the trademark be protected in the country of the notice, and they exclude issues such as parallel imports, pure price control and private distribution disputes. Repeated bad-faith complaints can cost filing privileges. Follow the on-screen IPPC rules for the market you select.

#What happens when the seller files a counter-notice?

Expect a chance to reply with more evidence inside the portal deadline. If you ignore a counter-notice, the listing may return. Diarise every deadline. Court action is separate from portal messaging; speak to an IP lawyer if the seller escalates.

#What marketplaces usually will not treat as counterfeiting

  • Parallel imports of genuine goods where the platform says that dispute is out of scope
  • Sellers undercutting your price on genuine stock
  • Pure distribution or territory quarrels without an IP infringement theory
  • Honest descriptive use that does not misuse your mark (fact-specific)

File only when you have a valid right and a clear infringement theory.

#Offline enforcement: KPDN and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011

In Malaysia you may also use KPDN e-Aduan for certain consumer and trade-description issues, and review the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 (Act 730).pdf). Government complaints do not replace marketplace portals and do not promise a listing is removed. Customs and court strategies need an IP lawyer.

#Fake brand accounts and ads beyond marketplaces

Counterfeit listings often travel with fake Facebook or Instagram shops and ads. See trademark report against fake brand accounts, brand impersonation in Malaysia, fake ads using my brand, fake website copying my business and phishing sites. If your own seller account was frozen, that is a different problem: Shopee frozen, Lazada suspended, TikTok Shop deactivated.

#When AwareXone can help

If fakes appear on more than one marketplace, or you need a structured evidence pack, send listing links for a case review. AwareXone has handled 1,300+ cases with anonymous clients. We are not a Shopee, Lazada or TikTok partner and have no private fast lane. We never ask for seller-centre passwords, and we do not promise takedowns. Malaysia quotes are in MYR after review; other countries in USD after review. Related: impersonation removal, digital identity protection, trust.

"Rights" - holder reports succeed when the certificate, the market and the listing line up. Portals are paperwork systems, not shortcuts around owning the IP." - Md Shariar Shanaz Shuvon, Founder, AwareXone

SocialSafe by AwareXone works only through official platform channels, never asks for passwords or one-time codes, and states that platforms make the final decision. See the Trust Center and pricing for how a case review works.

I am a seller whose listing was removed. Is this guide for me?
No. Use seller support and the marketplace appeal path. This page is for rights holders reporting someone else.
Can I report parallel imports?
Often no. TikTok Shop materials in particular treat parallel imports and distribution disputes as out of scope. Check each portal's rules.
How fast will listings come down?
No honest provider can promise a timeframe. Incomplete documents slow every portal.
Should I buy a test product every time?
Only when it materially helps prove a fake and you can store the evidence safely.
When do I bring in a lawyer?
When you need court orders, customs action, overlapping criminal complaints, or a seller threatens suit over a counter-notice.
Do you publish outcome percentages?
No. We also will not invent takedown counts. --- Sources: - Shopee rights holders - https://brandprotection.shopee.com/rights-holders - Shopee Brand IP Protection - https://brandprotection.shopee.com/ - Lazada IPR - https://www.lazada.com/en/ipr/ - Lazada IPP Handbook - https://www.lazada.com/static/ipr_annual_report/documents/Lazada-IPP-Handbook.pdf - Alibaba IPP - https://ipp.alibabagroup.com - TikTok Shop ecommerce IPR - https://www.tiktok.com/legal/report/ecommerce-IPR - TikTok Shop IPPC - https://ippc.tiktokglobalshop.com/ - MyIPO - https://www.myipo.gov.my/ - KPDN e-Aduan - https://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my/ - Trade Descriptions Act 2011 - https://mysafe.kpdn.gov.my/img/portal/document-latest/Trade%20Descriptions%20Act%202011%20(Act%20730).pdf
