Merge Duplicate Facebook Pages: Rules and Name Change

Two Facebook Pages for one business? Check Meta's merge requirements, what is deleted, why the name must match first and why a merge cannot be undone.

8 min read
Short answer

Check Meta's requirements first: Facebook access to both Pages, the same name, the same address, the same Business Manager and the right Page to keep. Meta says a merge deletes posts, photos, reviews, ratings and the username from the merged Page and cannot be undone.

Summary
  • Meta's page says merging may not be available to all users. You need Facebook access to both Pages, and task access is not enough.
  • The Pages must have the same name, represent the same thing, share any physical address and sit under the same Business Manager account.
  • Meta says posts, photos, reviews, ratings and the username are deleted from the Page you merge, and you cannot unmerge it.
  • If the names differ, request a name change first. Meta says a recent change or limits on the Page can remove that option.
  • A merge cannot be undone, so know what you are doing before you start. One wrong step can cost you content you wanted to keep.

You have two Facebook Pages for the same business. One was made years ago, another by a staff member or an agency, and now followers and reviews are split between them. Merging sounds like the tidy fix, but a merge removes things, and Meta says it cannot be undone.

This guide is about merging duplicate Pages and the name change that has to come first when the names differ. It is not about a Page you cannot access, which our guides on a Page with no admin access and restoring a deleted Page cover. We follow Meta's own help pages. We cannot merge Pages for you, and no outside service can override Meta.

Last checked: 26 October 2026. Meta says the ability to merge may not currently be available to all users, so the option may be missing for you even if you meet every rule below.

#What Are the Facebook Page Merge Requirements?

Meta's Merge two Facebook Pages page says that if you have Facebook access to two Pages, you may be able to merge them if they meet these conditions:

RequirementWhat Meta's page says
Same name, same subjectThe Pages have the same name and represent the same thing
Same addressThe Pages have the same address, if they have physical locations
Same Business ManagerThe Pages are under the same Business Manager account
Not the primary PageThe Page you want to merge from is not the primary Page of a Business Manager account
Facebook accessYou need Facebook access to the Page. With task access you cannot merge Pages

The page also lists what you cannot merge: two Pages that are global Pages, and a verified Page into a Page that is not verified. If you cannot see an option to merge Pages, the page says your Pages are not eligible. So the first test is whether the option shows up at all.

#What Is the Difference Between Facebook Access and Task Access?

Meta's About Facebook Page access page explains it. Facebook access lets people switch into the Page and manage it on Facebook, with full or partial control. Task access lets people manage the Page from other tools, such as Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager, but they cannot switch into the Page or manage it on Facebook. Since the merge page says task access is not enough, check which kind of access you hold on both Pages before you plan anything. If you work for an agency or a different business owner holds the access, the person with Facebook access has to start the request.

#What Happens When Pages Are Merged?

Meta's merge page lists what happens if your Pages can be merged:

  • Page followers and check-ins from profiles are combined.
  • Groups linked to the Page you merge are migrated to the Page you want to keep.
  • The Page you keep remains unchanged, except for the addition of people who follow the other Page.
  • Posts, photos, reviews, ratings and the username are deleted from the Page you merge.
  • The Page you do not want to keep is removed from Facebook, and you cannot unmerge it.

Read the fourth and fifth points twice. Reviews and ratings on the merged Page are deleted, not moved. The page also tells you to make sure that any campaigns you are running are not pointing to the Page that will be deleted before you request a merge.

#What Should I Check Before I Press Start?

The pages give the rules. This list is plain logic and not an official checklist:

  1. Decide which Page you keep. Meta says that Page stays unchanged and the other one is removed.
  2. Save anything on the Page you will merge that you want to keep, such as photos and the text of posts and reviews, because Meta says they are deleted.
  3. Note the username of the Page you merge, since Meta says it is deleted.
  4. Check your ad campaigns, as Meta advises, so none point at the Page to be removed.
  5. Check your access on both Pages, and ask the right person to act if you hold only task access.
  6. Confirm both Pages share the same name and address, and sit under the same Business Manager.

#How Do I Request a Merge?

Meta's page gives these steps on a computer:

  1. Log in to Facebook, then click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Click your Page's profile picture in the top right.
  4. Click Settings and privacy, then Settings.
  5. In the left menu, click Page setup.
  6. Next to Merge Pages, click View.
  7. Next to Merge multiple Pages, click Start request.

The page says to switch into your Page first. If the merge option is missing, it means your Pages are not eligible to be merged. The page does not say how long a merge takes, so we do not guess.

#What If the Names Do Not Match?

Meta's merge page says that if you want your Pages to have the same name, you can request a name change for one of them, and once the change is approved and the names match, you can request the merge. Meta's Change your Facebook Page's name page says you can request a name change if you have Facebook access to the Page, and not if you only have task access. It also says that changing a Page's name does not affect its username.

On a computer, the name page says to switch into the Page, go to Settings and privacy, then Settings, then Page setup, then Name, and click Edit next to the Page name. You update the name, click Review change, then Request change. If you do not see the option to edit the name, the page gives these reasons:

  • You do not have a Page role or Page access that allows you to change the name.
  • You or someone else with Facebook access recently changed the Page's name.
  • There may be limits on your Page.
  • You cannot change the name of a regional Page that is part of a global Page.

Meta's Guidelines for Facebook Page names page says a name must accurately reflect the Page. It says names cannot include abusive terms, the word official if the Page is not the official Page of a brand, place, organisation or public figure, improper capitalisation, symbols or unnecessary punctuation, descriptions or slogans, or any variation of Facebook or Meta. It also says names cannot consist only of a single general word or a general geographic location. A name that breaks these may not be approved, so pick the wording carefully before you submit.

#What the Pages Do Not Say

The pages we read do not say how long a name change or merge takes, and they do not say what happens if a name change is refused. They do not say why the merge option may not be available to a particular user. They do not say that a deleted review can be restored, and they say that a merge cannot be undone. We do not know your outcome, and we will not guess.

#When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Some owners do this alone, and the official steps come first. The risks are plain. Meta says a merge deletes posts, photos, reviews, ratings and the username from the Page you merge, and that you cannot unmerge it, so a mistake over which Page to keep is permanent. A name change can be refused or blocked by a recent change. Task access is not enough for either step, so a mix-up about who holds access can stall you. People with duplicate Pages also get offers from strangers who promise to merge them for you. Meta's pages describe the Page settings as the route, and no one needs your password. Our guide to spotting fake recovery services lists the signs.

If you are unsure about any step, or the Pages matter for your sales, handing the case to an experienced team such as AwareXone is the safer choice. We can help you check eligibility against the pages, plan which Page to keep and word the name change request. We never ask for your password. See our Facebook Page recovery help page, and use the Apply for Case Review button at the end of this guide.

#When a Case Review Makes Sense

If the merge option is missing, you only hold task access, or the two Pages sit under different Business Manager accounts, a review can help you plan before you start anything permanent. SocialSafe by AwareXone is a Malaysia-based service, independent of Meta, that helps you use the official routes. We never ask for your password or login codes, and we cannot change Meta's decisions.
