Report the incident through ReportCyber, plus Scamwatch if a scam was involved, and call your bank about any unauthorised charges.

For a hacked personal Facebook profile in Australia, start at facebook.com/hacked. For a hacked Meta business portfolio (Business Manager), use Meta's business portfolio recovery. Report the incident through ReportCyber, plus Scamwatch if a scam was involved, and call your bank about any unauthorised charges. A paid recovery service makes most sense for business Pages, ad accounts and repeated failed appeals. Choose one that uses official channels only and never asks for your password.
#Which Facebook problem do I have?
| Situation | Official starting point |
|---|---|
| Personal profile hacked | facebook.com/hacked, hacked account help |
| Profile suspended or disabled | The notice at login. Meta's suspended/disabled page |
| Business portfolio / Business Manager hacked | Recover a hacked or compromised business portfolio |
| Page admin removed | Recover the admin profile first, then the portfolio. See Page hacked, admin removed. |
| Ads charged to your card | Your bank, plus Meta. See ads charged to my card. |
#What should Australians report, and where?
The ACSC advises reporting compromised accounts through ReportCyber to the ACSC and the relevant police, to Scamwatch if a scam was involved or your account was used to scam others, and to the account provider (cyber.gov.au). If money was lost, it says to report the transactions to your bank immediately (cyber.gov.au). Small businesses can also contact IDCARE's small business helpline on 1800 595 170 (IDCARE).
#Business owners: what's at stake?
For Australian small businesses that sell through Facebook and Instagram, a compromised business portfolio can mean:
- Ads run on your card for someone else's scam
- Customers messaged by impersonators
- Pages renamed or deleted
- Lost access to pixels, catalogues and audiences
The order of recovery matters: admin profile → business portfolio → Pages and ad accounts → payment methods. Our business and creator recovery pillar explains each step.
"Business Manager recoveries move slowest when payment methods stay open and unknown admins remain. The order that works in practice is: personal profile, remove rogue partners, secure Pages, then cards and ad accounts. Meta's review time varies; we never quote a promised calendar." - Md Shariar Shanaz Shuvon, Founder, AwareXone
#How do I vet a Facebook recovery service?
- No credentials: it never asks for your password, OTP, backup codes or session cookies
- No promises: it says Meta decides
- Official routes only: facebook.com/hacked, identity checks, appeals, Meta Business Support, Meta Verified support
- Real identity: website, named people, written terms
- Normal payment and an invoice
- Honest screening: it tells you if your case looks weak
Avoid anyone claiming "Meta insider" access. See Meta unban brokers. Under section 478.1 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code, unauthorised access to restricted data carries a maximum two-year prison term (CDPP).
#Is there a Facebook support phone number in Australia?
Meta says it has no general public customer service phone number, and that numbers claiming to be Meta support are potentially scams. It points advertisers to Meta Business Support, and Meta Verified subscribers to email and chat support (Meta).
#What does AwareXone offer Australian clients?
Facebook profile, Page and Business Manager recovery through official channels, with no passwords and no promises. Australian clients are quoted and billed in USD, with the fee confirmed after case review (quoted in USD after review). Our SocialSafe by AwareXone Protect Business plan (the quoted fee/month in Malaysia; quoted in USD after review elsewhere, up to 10 accounts) covers ongoing prevention and readiness, not promised recovery. We reply within five hours during 9am-11pm MYT (11am-1am AEST). See how a case review works on the SocialSafe by AwareXone Facebook account recovery page, the Facebook Page recovery page and the Business Manager recovery page, or check pricing and the Trust Center.
#How do I prevent this happening again?
- Two trusted admins on every Page and portfolio
- Two-factor authentication for everyone with business access
- Remove ex-staff and agencies promptly
- Watch for fake "Meta policy violation" emails and DMs
- Keep an ownership file: ABN registration, invoices, domain email
#What should I prepare before getting help?
- Profile URL, Page URLs, business portfolio ID and ad account IDs
- Screenshots of security emails, notices and unauthorised charges
- ID that matches the profile name
- ABN registration, invoices and domain email for business assets
- A timeline of events and the steps you've already tried
- Reference numbers from ReportCyber, Scamwatch or your bank
Never send passwords, codes or session details to anyone.
#What questions should I ask a Facebook recovery provider?
- Which official route fits my case: hacked flow, appeal, business portfolio recovery, or Business Support?
- Do you need my password or codes? (No.)
- What's included, and what happens if Meta refuses?
- What are the written fees and refund terms?
- How will you help me secure the account afterwards?
#What if the personal profile is disabled but the Page is fine?
If another admin still has access, they can protect the Page and business portfolio while you appeal. If you were the only admin, the appeal on your profile becomes the priority. See our appeals guide.
#How does Facebook's official recovery flow work for each problem?
- Hacked profile: go to facebook.com/hacked, follow the steps, and use any "secure your account" link in Facebook's security email.
- Disabled profile: request a review from the notice. Meta describes a time-limited window (Facebook Help).
- Hacked or lost business portfolio: use Meta Business Help's business portfolio recovery route (Meta Business Help).
- Restricted ad account: open Account Quality and request a review. See our Meta ad account disabled guide.
#Bottom line
Use Meta's official routes for profiles and business portfolios, call your bank about unauthorised charges, and report through ReportCyber. If you need help, choose a provider that works in the open, never asks for your login, and is honest about what Meta decides.
