Twitch Account Suspended? How to Appeal It
Twitch account suspended? Appeals go only through appeals.twitch.tv, which works while you are suspended. Limits, reinstatement and hacked-account steps.
Appeal only through the Twitch Appeals Portal, which you can log in to even while suspended. Read the enforcement's reason and length, answer it calmly and submit once, because you usually get one appeal per enforcement. If someone else was using your account, secure your email and contact Twitch Support about the hack first. Twitch makes the final decision.
Summary- A Twitch suspension is an enforcement for a rule breach, and the email and the Appeals Portal tell you its type, reason and length.
- The only place to appeal is the Twitch Appeals Portal, which you can log in to even while your account is suspended.
- You usually get one appeal per enforcement, so read the stated reason, answer it calmly and submit once, then wait for the status to change from Pending.
- If someone else was using your account, secure your email and contact Twitch Support about the hack before you rely on an appeal.
- Do not open a new account while suspended, and do not pay anyone offering an unban or ask a helper to log in for you.
- Twitch makes the final decision, it may keep the suspension in place, and an indefinite suspension can only be reconsidered on its own timetable.

You went to stream or chat and Twitch told you your account is suspended. Maybe an email arrived at the same time. Maybe you cannot even watch anything. If Twitch is how you earn money or keep in touch with your community, this lands hard.
The short answer: open the Twitch Appeals Portal, read exactly which enforcement you received and why, and decide whether to appeal. Appeals sent any other way are not considered, and you normally get one attempt per suspension, so it is worth doing properly.
This guide explains the suspension types, how the portal works, how to write the appeal, what to do if a hacker caused the suspension, and the mistakes and scams that make things worse.

#How Do You Appeal a Twitch Suspension?
Go to appeals.twitch.tv and log in with the suspended account. Twitch says you can reach the portal even while the account is suspended. Pick the enforcement, read its date, reason and length, explain in the description box why you believe it was wrong, and submit. The status then shows "Pending" until Twitch emails its decision. Twitch's appeals page says appeals by any other route are not considered, and it offers no promise that a suspension will be overturned. Nobody outside Twitch, including AwareXone, can lift one.
#Which Twitch Suspension Do You Have?
Twitch uses several enforcement types, and the right move depends on which one you have. Its help page About Account Enforcements and Chat Bans describes them. Twitch says it notifies the account holder by email and shows the reason in the Appeals Portal. The exact wording of the email and any on-screen notice can vary by app, language and region, so go by what the portal lists.
| What the portal or email shows | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A warning | A courtesy notice for some violations; related content may be removed | Read it and avoid repeating it. A repeat or similar violation may lead to a suspension |
| Streaming suspension | You cannot go live, create Stories, join Stream Together or upload VODs, for 24 hours to 30 days | Appeal only if you believe it was wrong; otherwise wait it out and keep watching and chatting as normal |
| Chatting suspension | You cannot chat in other channels, send Whispers, Cheer or redeem Channel Points, for 24 hours to 30 days | You can still chat in your own channel; appeal if you believe it was a mistake |
| Both streaming and chatting suspended | Twitch applies both for more severe violations, such as hate speech, wherever they happened | Read the reason carefully before appealing |
| Indefinite suspension | No access to Twitch at all, including watching; recurring subscriptions do not renew | Appeal if it was an error, or wait six months and request reinstatement |
| Forced username reset | Your username was flagged; the account is locked until you choose a new one | Complete the reset to regain access, and appeal the rename in the portal if you disagree |
| Banned from one channel's chat | A decision by that channel's owner or moderators, not by Twitch | Use "Request Unban" in that channel's chat if the owner allows it; Twitch will not reverse it |
| A copyright (DMCA) strike | Tracked separately from Community Guidelines enforcements | Follow Twitch's DMCA Guidelines; the Appeals Portal is not the route |
Twitch's Safety Center enforcement page adds that an indefinite suspension can come from a single serious offence or from several temporary suspensions over time. A suspended user who appears in someone else's channel can also cause that channel to be suspended, so do not join a friend's stream as a guest while you wait.
#Suspension Length and Record Expiry Are Not the Same
Your suspension is how long you lose features. The record is how long the violation stays on your account. Twitch says the suspension ends first and the violation stays on the record until it expires: 90 days for lower severity violations, and one or two years for higher severity ones.
This matters because Twitch uses escalating consequences. A second violation in the same policy category before the first one expires brings a longer suspension, even if it is no more serious. The expiry date in the Appeals Portal is when the violation drops off your record, not when your suspension ends. Many people misread that date and think they are suspended for a year.
#How the Twitch Appeals Portal Works
The portal is the only appeal channel. When you open it logged out, it says "To view your enforcements and submit an appeal, please log in." Twitch's appeals page describes the process:
- Log in at appeals.twitch.tv with the account you want to appeal for. It works while you are suspended.
- Select the enforcement you want to appeal. Each one lists its date, reason and suspension length or type.
- Check your user details, which the form fills in for you at the bottom of the page.
- Write your explanation in the description box.
- Submit. You get an on-screen confirmation and the status changes to "Pending".
- Wait for the email with Twitch's decision. The portal status updates at the same time, and that completes the appeal.
Twitch's Safety Operations team reviews appeals in the order they arrive. Twitch does not publish a review time, so an appeal can sit at "Pending" for a while. Do not submit again because nothing has happened yet.
#The Limits: How Many Appeals, and When
Twitch recognises two kinds of request, and the rules differ for each.
- Appeal of an error: if you believe you did not break the Community Guidelines, or Twitch enforced against you incorrectly, you can appeal for up to six months after the enforcement, with no waiting period.
- For suspensions of 30 days or less: one appeal per enforcement.
- For an indefinite suspension: one appeal of either kind in any six-month period.
- Request for reinstatement: if the indefinite suspension was correct, you may ask for reinstatement after serving at least six months. You must take responsibility and acknowledge that you broke the Community Guidelines.
- If a reinstatement request is denied, you wait six months before trying again. Only one reinstatement is ever granted per user, and Twitch will not consider it for high severity harms such as violent content.
- After reinstatement you are on probation for up to six months, and a new violation may bring a longer suspension or another indefinite one.
#How to Write an Appeal Twitch Can Act On
A good appeal answers the reason in the portal, in plain words. Twitch cannot see your frustration, only your explanation. Keep it short and specific.
- Quote the enforcement reason and date exactly as the portal shows them.
- Say which part you believe is wrong, and why. For example, the clip was from a rated film shown with commentary, or the chat message was a quote you were condemning.
- Give the context Twitch cannot see: the stream date, the rough timestamp, what happened just before.
- If someone else had access to your account at the time, say so plainly and say what you did to secure it.
- If you are asking for reinstatement, accept responsibility. Twitch requires it for that type of request.
- Leave out insults, threats to leave the platform and comparisons with other streamers. They add nothing a reviewer can check.
Twitch Support will not tell you in advance whether an old clip or chat message is allowed. Its page on past behaviour and account standing says questions like that go unanswered, and points you to the Appeals Portal for your record. If a VOD worries you, Twitch suggests deleting it yourself rather than asking.
#Suspended After a Hack? Recover the Account First
Sometimes the suspension is a symptom. Twitch's hacked account help page lists "Your account was unexpectedly suspended" among the signs that someone else accessed your account, alongside settings changes, purchases you do not recognise and Whispers you did not send. Its Community Guidelines say streamers are sometimes victims of account takeover or fraud directed by a third party, and that Twitch has ways to detect this and does not penalise good-faith streamers.
If you can still log in, Twitch recommends these steps, also listed on its Safety Center takeover page:
- Use "Sign Out Everywhere" in your security settings at twitch.tv/settings/security.
- Delete saved payment methods if you see purchases you did not make.
- Monetised creators: check that the payout method is still yours.
- Remove browser extensions, programs and connected third-party apps you do not recognise or trust, and scan your device for malware.
- Check that the email on the Twitch account is still yours, then change the password on that email account and turn on its two-factor authentication.
- Reset your Twitch password to one you use nowhere else, and set up Twitch two-factor authentication, which Twitch's account takeover prevention page says is required to stream.
If you cannot log in, Twitch says to request a password reset first. If no reset email arrives, the email on the account may have been changed. Then open a Twitch Support ticket under "Account/Login Issues", "Logging In", "My account has been hacked or stolen (without charges)", or under "Unrecognized / Unauthorized Charges" if money was taken. Once the account is back in your hands, appeal the suspension in the portal and explain the takeover.
Lost the phone or email too? Twitch's login issues guide covers each combination, and our guide to getting back in without the old email, phone or 2FA helps you prepare. If a fake login page started all this, read what to do after clicking a phishing link.
#Mistakes That End Twitch Appeals
- Creating a new account while suspended. Twitch's Community Guidelines treat any attempt to get around a suspension with other accounts as evasion, which brings more enforcement, up to an indefinite suspension.
- Streaming as a guest on a friend's channel. It can get their channel suspended too.
- Emailing, tagging Twitch on social media or opening a general ticket to appeal. Only the portal counts.
- Sending several appeals for the same enforcement, or letting a friend appeal for you.
- Misreading the expiry date as the end of the suspension and appealing in panic.
- Appealing a channel ban or a DMCA strike through the portal instead of the route Twitch gives for each.
- Buying, selling or sharing a Twitch login. The Community Guidelines prohibit selling or sharing user accounts.
#If You Paid Someone or Lost Money in Malaysia
Handle the money first. The NSRC's FAQ on the NFCC website says to call your bank's 24-hour hotline or the NSRC on 997 as soon as you notice an unauthorised transaction, then make a police report at the nearest station. It also says NSRC and the other agencies will never ask for your password, PIN, TAC or OTP. If a hacker used a saved card on Twitch, remove the card and tell your bank as well as Twitch Support.
A fake Twitch login page or phishing message can be reported to CyberSecurity Malaysia's Cyber999 incident response centre by online form, email, phone or its app.
#What If Twitch Says No?
A denied appeal for a temporary suspension usually means waiting out the time shown and keeping the next months clean, since the violation stays on your record until it expires. A denied appeal against an indefinite suspension means waiting six months for the next request. Some accounts do not come back, and a new account would count as evasion.
If you are a creator, keep your community informed through channels you already run, and keep copies of your own content. Twitch says it does not share enforcement details with the wider community, so what you tell your viewers is up to you. Streamers dealing with a similar decision elsewhere may find our guide to a terminated YouTube channel useful.
#When a Case Review Makes Sense
Most Twitch suspensions are best handled by you alone: one clear appeal in the portal. Outside help can be worth it when a hack and a suspension are tangled together, when the phone and email on the account are gone, or when the channel carries your income. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, looks at the case before anything is agreed and uses only the official Twitch routes described here; sometimes the honest answer is that you already have what you need. You can start from our recovery hub, and our Trust Center explains what we will never ask for, starting with your password and codes.
