TikTok Video Under Review or Ineligible for For You?

TikTok video stuck under review or ineligible for the For You feed in Malaysia? What each status means, where the appeal is, and what to stop doing.

11 min read
Short answer

Under review means TikTok is still checking the video. Ineligible means the video stays up but is left out of the For You feed. Check the video's analytics and your notifications, then run Account Check to see if the whole account is affected. If you think TikTok got it wrong, appeal once from the notice in the app.

Summary
  • Under review means TikTok is still checking a video, while ineligible means the video stays up but is left out of the For You feed.
  • Open the video's analytics and your notifications first, because TikTok says restrictions and ineligible videos are shown there with the option to appeal.
  • Run Account Check to see whether one video is affected or the whole account has been made temporarily ineligible for recommendation.
  • Appeal once from the notice inside the app if you believe TikTok got it wrong, then follow its progress in the Safety Center.
  • Do not buy views, use a second account to get around the limit, or pay anyone promising to unlock your reach, and never share login codes.
  • TikTok makes the final decision on every appeal, and nobody outside TikTok can put a video or account back into the For You feed.

You posted a video for your kuih business last night. This morning it has barely any views, and when you try to share the link, TikTok says the video is under review. Or the analytics page says the video is not eligible for the For You feed. Nobody has told you which rule you broke.

Neither status is a ban. Under review means TikTok has not finished checking the video. Ineligible means the video is still on your profile but TikTok will not recommend it to strangers. Both come with a way to disagree, and both are decided by TikTok alone.

This guide explains what each notice means, how to tell a single video problem from an account-wide one, how to appeal, and the habits that turn a one-off into a longer reach problem.

#What Does Under Review or Ineligible for the For You Feed Mean on TikTok?

A video under review is one TikTok's systems have flagged for a closer look, so it may not be shareable or recommended until the check ends. A video that is ineligible for the For You feed has passed the removal test but falls under TikTok's "FYF Ineligible" standards, so it stays on your profile and in search but is not pushed to new viewers. TikTok's Community Guidelines on enforcement say that if your content is made ineligible or otherwise restricted, the information appears in the TikTok analytics tool, and that you may appeal if you believe it was an error. Check the analytics and notifications, appeal once if you disagree, and post new original content rather than the same clip.

#Which Status Are You Looking At?

Creators call several different things a shadowban, a word TikTok's guidelines do not use. Each status below has its own next step. On-screen wording varies by app version and region, so match the meaning, not the exact words.

#Why Does TikTok Hold a Video for Review?

Most videos are checked by software before any person sees them. TikTok's enforcement guidelines say content first goes through an automated review, and anything identified as a potential violation is either removed automatically or flagged for moderators. The same page says additional review happens if content gains popularity or has been reported.

So a video that does well for an hour and then stalls under review may simply have triggered the second look by getting popular. It does not mean you did something wrong.

One category has its own review step. TikTok's For You feed eligibility standards say that unverified information about crises or major civic events, and content temporarily under review by fact-checkers, is ineligible for the For You feed as a precaution. A video about a flood or an election can sit in that state while facts are checked, so check claims before you post.

#What Makes a Video Ineligible for the For You Feed?

TikTok keeps a separate, stricter bar for the For You feed than for staying on the app. Its guidelines say the feed serves a broad audience, from teenagers to great grandparents, so some allowed content is left out of it. The "FYF Ineligible" sections across the Community Guidelines list what qualifies. The ones that most often catch everyday creators and small businesses are these:

  • Unoriginal or reused material: TikTok's integrity and authenticity rules say content is ineligible for the feed if it includes unoriginal or reused material without anything new.
  • Fake engagement and bait: TikTok's integrity and authenticity rules say content that tries to manipulate people into giving gifts or inflating likes or follows is not eligible.
  • Undisclosed paid promotion: The accounts and features rules say commercial content that is not properly disclosed may be removed from the feed or have the disclosure setting applied by TikTok.
  • Risky stunts and activities: Activities that may lead to moderate physical harm are ineligible and restricted to adults.
  • Misinformation that may cause moderate harm, and unverified claims about crises or civic events.
  • Mature themes such as detailed descriptions or non-graphic images of self-harm or disordered eating, and lower-severity degrading behaviour aimed at others.
  • Creators under 16: TikTok's youth safety rules say you need to be 16 or older for your videos to appear in the For You feed.

The same page says a video with few views has not necessarily broken a rule. TikTok also avoids recommending too much of certain themes, such as extreme fitness or sadness, in a row. That limits how often a type of video is shown; it is not a mark against your account.

One ineligible video is a video problem. A run of them can become an account problem. In an April 2024 TikTok newsroom post, the company announced a policy to make an entire account temporarily ineligible for recommendation if a creator repeatedly posts content that goes against the For You feed standards. The account and its content become harder to find in search, and TikTok said it would notify creators and let them appeal.

The current accounts and features rules put it the same way: accounts that do not break the rules but still post a lot of ineligible content may have the account and its content made ineligible and harder to find. The integrity rules add that deceptive behaviour, such as fake engagement, can lead to an account restriction that limits posting, top search results or the For You feed.

The newsroom post also introduced Account Check, which audits your account and your last 30 posts and shows at a glance whether you are in good standing. It covers restricted features, removed content and content restricted from reaching the For You feed. This is the quickest way to tell a single video problem from an account-wide one.

#How to Check the Status and Appeal

Everything happens inside the TikTok app; there is no email address and no paid route. At the time of writing the steps look like this, though menu names vary by app version:

  1. Update the TikTok app so the latest notices and appeal screens load.
  2. Open your notifications and read any message about the video or the account. Screenshot it with the date.
  3. Open the affected video's analytics. TikTok says ineligible and restricted videos are flagged there.
  4. Run Account Check from TikTok's creator tools or the Safety Center to see whether other posts or the whole account are affected.
  5. If you believe TikTok got it wrong, open the notice and use its appeal option. Pick the reason that fits and add a short, factual note if there is a box for one.
  6. Appeal once per decision. TikTok's enforcement guidelines say you can then view the appeal's status in the in-app Safety Center.
  7. While you wait, keep posting original content that clearly meets the standards, instead of reposting the flagged clip.

#A Five-Minute Checklist Before You Appeal

Run through this list before you tap submit. If most answers point to the video breaking a standard, a new original video will do more than an appeal.

  • Is every clip, sound and image in the video yours, or used with permission and changed enough to add something new?
  • Is there another creator's watermark, logo or on-screen handle anywhere in it?
  • Does the caption ask viewers to like, follow or send gifts in exchange for something that is not real?
  • Is it paid or gifted promotion, and did you switch on the content disclosure setting?
  • Is the account holder, or anyone who clearly appears as the main creator, under 16?
  • Does Account Check show other flagged posts, which would suggest a pattern rather than a one-off?
  • Have you saved screenshots of the notice, the analytics note and your original files as proof of authorship?

#Mistakes That Make Reach Problems Worse

The usual quick fixes can turn one ineligible video into a longer restriction. Avoid these:

  • Deleting and reposting the same clip. The content has not changed, and a run of ineligible posts is what TikTok says can make the whole account ineligible.
  • Opening a second account to reach the For You feed. TikTok's integrity rules list using another account to avoid restrictions, including FYF-ineligible content restrictions, as circumvention.
  • Buying views, likes or followers. TikTok says it removes inflated signals and can restrict or ban accounts involved.
  • Using automation tools or scripts to post or engage. The same rules prohibit tools designed to bypass TikTok's systems.
  • Sending many appeals for one decision, or writing claims that are not true.
  • Clicking "appeal" or "verify" links that arrive by DM, email or messaging apps. Real appeals start inside TikTok.

#What If the Flagged Videos Were Not Yours?

Sometimes the videos that triggered the limit were posted by someone else: an attacker using the account to push scam links, or a former staff member who still has the login. TikTok's rules judge what the account posted, so that activity can count against you.

Deal with access before reach. Change the password, sign out devices you do not recognise, check that the email and phone on the account are still yours, and turn on two-step verification. Our guide to recovering a TikTok account in Malaysia covers the lockout routes, and our explainer on two-factor authentication for TikTok and other apps shows how to set it up so it survives a phone change. Once the account is secure, appeal the flagged content and say plainly that someone else posted it and roughly when.

If the problem is bigger than reach, such as a full ban, our guide to a banned TikTok account in Malaysia covers that route, including Malaysia's age rules. Creators who stream should read our note on LIVE restrictions for unoriginal content, because LIVE has its own rules.

#When Expert Recovery Help Makes Sense

A single ineligible video rarely needs outside help; everything above is enough. A second opinion is worth it when the account supports your income, when the whole account is no longer recommended and the appeal failed, or when a hack and a restriction are tangled together. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, looks at the notices and what you have tried, then tells you honestly whether an official route is still open. We use only TikTok's own appeal and support channels, and never ask for your password or login codes. Our TikTok account recovery service explains how the review works, and our Trust Center sets out what we will never ask for.

#Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a TikTok video stay under review?
TikTok does not publish a fixed review time. Its guidelines say content goes through automated review first and gets additional review if it becomes popular or is reported, so timing varies. Check your notifications rather than reposting while you wait.
Can people still see a TikTok video that is ineligible for the For You feed?
Yes. TikTok says people may still find it through search or by going to your profile. What changes is that the For You feed will not recommend it.
Is a TikTok shadowban real?
TikTok's guidelines do not use the word. What they describe is content or an account being made ineligible for the For You feed, which TikTok says is shown in your analytics or by notice and can be appealed. Low views without any notice are usually normal variation.
Does an ineligible video affect TikTok monetisation?
It can. TikTok's accounts and features rules say content that is not eligible for the For You feed may also be restricted from monetisation features, which require you to be 18 or older.
Should I delete a TikTok video marked ineligible?
Not before you decide whether to appeal, because deleting it removes the decision you would be appealing. If the video clearly breaks a standard, deleting it and posting original content instead is reasonable, but do not upload the same clip again.
Can AwareXone get my video back on the For You page?
No. Only TikTok decides what is recommended. We can review a wider account problem, such as a restriction combined with a hack, and help you use TikTok's official appeal routes properly.
