TikTok Verification Code Not Received? What to Do
TikTok verification code not arriving by SMS or email? For users in Malaysia: the number format, inbox checks, other ways to log in and when to ask TikTok.
A missing TikTok code is usually a wrong number format, a filtered inbox, a lapsed SIM or too many requests, not a ban. Pick Malaysia as the country code, check for typos, look in spam, restart your phone, then request one new code. If it still fails, use another method you set up. Never forward a code to anyone.
Summary- A missing TikTok code is usually caused by a wrong number format, a filtered inbox, a lapsed SIM or too many requests, not by a ban.
- Pick Malaysia as the country code, check the number and email for typos, look in spam, restart the phone, then request one new code.
- If the code still does not come, use another method you set up, a trusted device, friends verification or the Need more help option in the app.
- TikTok says it never contacts you to ask for your verification codes, so never forward a code to anyone, including a friend or a helper.
- If codes arrive that you did not ask for, someone may be trying your account, or your number may once have belonged to someone else.
- Identity checks through Need more help can take up to 30 days, TikTok makes the final decision, and some accounts are not restored.

TikTok says it has sent you a code. You wait, tap "Resend code", wait again, and nothing arrives by SMS or email. Meanwhile you are stuck on the login screen, or halfway through changing your phone number, and cannot get past it.
The short answer: check the country code and how you typed the number or email, look in spam and other folders, confirm your SIM can receive texts, restart the phone, then ask for one new code. If it still does not come, stop requesting codes and switch to another route TikTok offers, such as a different verification method, a trusted device or its identity check.
This guide covers phone codes, email codes and two-step verification codes, the checks worth doing in Malaysia, and what to do if codes start arriving that you never asked for.

#Why Is TikTok Not Sending My Verification Code?
Most of the time TikTok did send something, but it went to the wrong place or was filtered out before you saw it. TikTok's help page on a missing phone verification code points to the number format first: select the correct country code, enter the number correctly, then restart your device and request the code again. Its page on a missing email verification code lists three checks: typos or spaces in the address, the spam folder or another folder, and a mailbox that is full. If you have done all of that, stop requesting codes and switch route. TikTok does not publish how many code requests it allows.
#Which Code Is Missing, and Why?
"Verification code" covers several different messages. Work out which one you are waiting for, because the fix is different for each. The wording on your screen can vary by app version, language setting and region.
| What you are doing | Where the code goes | Most likely reason it has not arrived | What to try |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logging in with your phone number | SMS to that number | Wrong country code or number format, no signal, or an inactive SIM | Select Malaysia as the country, retype the number, restart the phone, request once more |
| Logging in or resetting with your email | Your inbox | A typo in the address, a spam or promotions folder, or a full mailbox | Search the inbox and spam for TikTok, free up space, then request again |
| Logging in on a new device | SMS or email on the account | The phone or email linked to TikTok is not the one you are checking | Log in from a device you used before, or check the other contact method |
| Two-step verification prompt | Phone, email or authenticator app, depending on what you set up | You are waiting for a text when the code actually lives in an authenticator app, or the only method you set up is the one failing | Look for an option to use another method; use your authenticator app or recovery code if you set one up |
| Changing your phone number or email | Both the old and the new contact | TikTok needs both the old and new contact to be active | If the old one is gone, use Need more help to reset your authentication method |
#Fixing a Missing SMS Code in Malaysia
A text can fail for reasons on your side of the phone line. Rule these out in order before you ask TikTok for another code.
- Check the country code. On the phone number screen, the country should be Malaysia (+60), not a default picked from your app language or a previous trip.
- Check the leading 0. TikTok's pages disagree here: the missing phone code page says to enter the number without the country code and without the prefix 0, while its email and phone number page says to enter it with the 0 and without the country code. Try it the first way, and if no code comes, try the other.
- Confirm the number is the one on the account. TikTok says one phone number can only be linked to one account. If you have changed numbers, the code may be going to your old line.
- Check the SIM is active and has signal. A prepaid line that has not been reloaded may stop receiving texts. Switch airplane mode on and off.
- Check message filters. Look in any spam, junk or unknown senders folder in your messaging app, and make sure you have not blocked short code senders.
- Restart the phone, then request one new code and use only the newest one.
#Fixing a Missing Email Code
Email codes go missing for simpler reasons than SMS, and most are quick to rule out.
- Read the address back slowly. A missing letter, a swapped domain or a space at the end sends the code nowhere. TikTok's email code page calls out typos and spaces directly.
- Search every folder for "TikTok", including spam, promotions, updates and any rules that move mail automatically.
- Check the mailbox is not full. TikTok says a full inbox can stop the code arriving, so delete some mail and request again.
- Check you are looking at the right inbox. TikTok says an email address can only be linked to one TikTok account, so with several accounts, each code goes to that account's address.
#What to Do When the Code Never Comes: A Decision Path
Once the basic checks are done, stop asking for codes and follow the branch that matches you.
- Are you still logged in on any phone, tablet or browser? If yes, work from there. Check the phone and email under Settings and privacy, then Account, then Account Information, and fix them before you log out anywhere.
- Do you have a device you have logged in with before? If yes, try from that device. TikTok's password reset page says that with two-step verification on, resetting from a new or untrusted device shows an "unrecognized device" error, and the fix is to use a trusted device or recover the account.
- Did you set up more than one two-step method? If yes, use the one that still works. TikTok's page on how your email and phone number are used says the login code comes from your phone, email or authenticator app, depending on the methods you chose.
- Do you use an authenticator app you have lost? TikTok's account safety page says to tap "Can't access the app" and enter the recovery code you got when you set it up.
- Are you connected with friends on TikTok? TikTok offers friends verification: tap Help at the top of the app, then Recover your account, search for your account, tap "Can't access these?" and choose Ask friends to verify. At least 2 friends must verify you within a limited time.
- None of the above? On the login screen, tap "Forgot password?", then Recover account, and answer what TikTok asks, which may include your registered email, phone number or previous passwords. Without the email you signed up with, TikTok says to tap "Need more help?" and fill in the form to reset your authentication method.
If you tapped "Resend code" many times and now see a lock message, our guide to TikTok's maximum attempts screen explains how long to leave it before trying again.
#If the Phone or Email on the Account Is Gone
Sometimes the code arrives perfectly, just at a number or inbox you no longer have. TikTok's email and phone number page says the old and the new phone number or email must both be active and verified when you change them, because codes go to both.
In that case the route is the authentication reset through "Need more help?", or friends verification if you have connected friends. Our guide to getting back into an account without your old email, phone or 2FA covers how to prepare for that kind of identity check across platforms.
#Codes You Did Not Ask For
An unexpected TikTok code means someone typed your phone number or email into a TikTok screen. There are two common explanations, and neither is solved by replying to anyone.
- Your number once belonged to someone else. TikTok's page on recycled mobile numbers says carriers reassign numbers after a period of inactivity, and you may receive codes for an account that previously used your number. It says to ignore the code, not to log into an account you do not recognise, and to request that the number be unlinked through Settings and privacy, then Help Center, then Chat with us or Report a problem.
- Someone is trying to get into your account. TikTok's page on signs of a hacked account lists a changed password or phone number, a changed username, videos deleted or posted without you, and messages you did not write. If you can still log in, change your password, check your linked phone and remove devices you do not recognise under Security & permissions, then Manage devices.
TikTok's Community Guidelines on privacy and security say that when it detects suspicious activity, it may ask for SMS or email confirmation, a CAPTCHA or a login from a verified mobile device to confirm ownership. Complete those only inside the TikTok app or on tiktok.com. If someone has already changed your details, our TikTok recovery guide for Malaysia takes it from there.
#Mistakes That Make a Missing Code Harder to Fix
- Tapping "Resend code" every few seconds. It does not make delivery faster, and too many requests may leave you facing a temporary lock.
- Typing an older code after asking for a newer one.
- Letting the prepaid line linked to TikTok lapse.
- Reinstalling in a panic. TikTok's first troubleshooting steps start with restarting the app and device, updating the app and switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Asking a friend to log in "to test" with your details, or forwarding them your code. That hands over the account.
#Contacting TikTok About a Code Problem
If none of the checks work, tell TikTok exactly what is happening. Logged in, TikTok's forgot password page describes the in-app path: Settings and privacy, then Report a problem, then Account and profile, then Login. Logged out, tap "Need more help?" in the app, or use the web Report a problem form and choose the topic closest to login or account access.
- Your username, and the phone number or email the code should reach.
- Which code is missing (SMS, email or two-step) and on which screen.
- What you have already checked.
- A dated screenshot of the screen.
#If You Shared a Code or Lost Money in Malaysia
If you forwarded a code and then lost money, for example through a scam run from your account, act on the money first. The government's NSRC 997 hotline page asks victims to call 997 within 24 hours of discovering a scam, then contact their bank and make a police report at the nearest station. To report the account compromise or a fake TikTok login page as a security incident, CyberSecurity Malaysia's Cyber999 service takes reports by online form, email, phone and its mobile app.
#When a Case Review Makes Sense
Most missing codes are fixed with the checks above, and you do not need anyone's help for them. A second opinion is useful when the phone and email on the account are both gone, when codes you did not request are arriving alongside other signs of a takeover, or when the account runs a shop or a creator income. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, looks at the case first and tells you honestly whether an official TikTok route is still open. We work through the same TikTok forms you can use, and we cannot send or receive a TikTok code on your behalf. Read how we approach TikTok account recovery, and our Trust Center lists what we will never ask for, starting with any code.
