Fake TikTok Account Using Your Name? How to Report It

Someone in Malaysia made a fake TikTok account with your name or photos? How to report it as Pretending to Be Someone, use the web form and protect followers.

10 min read
Short answer

Save the profile link and screenshots first, then report it from the fake profile: tap Report, choose Report account, then Pretending to Be Someone, then Me. If you cannot report in the app, use TikTok's web form. Warn your followers from your real account. Never pay for a quick takedown. TikTok decides every report.

Summary
  • A fake TikTok account using your name or photos breaks TikTok's rules unless it clearly says it is a fan or parody account in its display name.
  • Report it from the profile: open the menu, tap Report, choose Report account, then Pretending to Be Someone, then Me.
  • Outside the US you can also use TikTok's web form: Report a potential violation, then Account violation, then Impersonation.
  • Before you report, save the profile link, screenshots and any messages the fake sent, and warn your followers from your real account.
  • Never pay anyone who offers a quick takedown, never share a login code, and never try to hack the fake account or expose its owner.
  • TikTok decides every report, it does not publish a review time, and a fan account that does not deceive anyone may be allowed to stay.

A friend sends you a link. It is a TikTok profile with your face, your name and a username one character away from yours. It may already be following your friends, or messaging them about a giveaway or a loan.

The short answer: report it to TikTok as an impersonation account, from the profile in the app or through TikTok's web form, and warn your followers from your real account while you wait. Save evidence first, because the fake may change its name or vanish once it is reported.

This guide covers how to tell a fake from a fan page, the exact report steps, what to write, how to handle followers who were contacted, and the Malaysian agencies to call if money has already moved.

#How Do You Report a Fake TikTok Account Pretending to Be You?

Open the fake profile, tap the Share button at the top, tap "Report", choose "Report account", select "Pretending to Be Someone", pick "Me" and submit. On a computer the same report starts from the "More options" (three dots) button on the profile. If you cannot report in the app, or you do not use TikTok, TikTok's Report a problem form takes impersonation reports for accounts outside the US. TikTok reviews the report and makes the decision; nobody outside TikTok, including AwareXone, can remove the account for you.

#Is It Impersonation, a Fan Account or a Hack?

TikTok treats these very differently, so identify which one you are looking at before you report. Its integrity and authenticity guidelines say it does not allow "impersonation by pretending to be someone else without clearly stating that the account is a fan or parody account in the display name". The same page says people may run extra accounts for fan content or creative expression, but not to deceive others.

Common fake-account situations on TikTok and the matching route, based on TikTok's help pages and Community Guidelines at the time of writing.

If your real account was taken over, the fix is different. Our guide to a TikTok account hacked with the email changed covers that route. Takeovers and fakes often come together: a scammer who loses a stolen account may build a copy to keep contacting the same followers.

#Save the Evidence Before You Report

Screenshots are your record if the fake changes its username or TikTok asks for more detail. Do this in about ten minutes, before you tap Report.

  • Copy the fake profile's link from the app's share options or the browser address bar, and write down the exact username, including dots and underscores.
  • Screenshot the profile page showing the photo, display name, bio and follower count, with the date visible on your phone.
  • Screenshot any videos that reuse your content, and note the dates you originally posted them.
  • Ask followers who were contacted to send you screenshots of the messages, showing the sender's username.
  • Copy your real profile link too, so the report can point TikTok to the genuine account.
  • Keep a simple log: when you found it, when you reported it, and any report confirmation you receive.

#Report It in the TikTok App or Browser

TikTok's page on reporting an impersonation account gives these steps. Labels can differ slightly by app version, language and region, so look for the closest match.

  1. Go to the fake profile and tap the Share button at the top (in a browser, click the "More options" button).
  2. Tap "Report", then "Report account".
  3. Select "Pretending to Be Someone".
  4. Select "Me" if the account is copying you. Choose "Celebrity" if it copies a public figure, then search for and select the real account.
  5. Tap "Submit".

TikTok's general page on reporting an account lists impersonating another account as a Community Guidelines violation, alongside other reasons. If the fake also posts something else that breaks the rules, such as your phone number or address, report that video separately under the reason that fits.

#Report It With TikTok's Web Form

The web form helps if you have no TikTok account, the fake has blocked you, or the in-app report did not work. For accounts outside the US, which includes Malaysia, TikTok's help page points to its Report a problem form. When we checked it on 29 September 2026, the form opened in a browser without logging in.

  1. Open the form and click the "Topic" field. Select "Report a potential violation".
  2. For "Category", select "Account violation".
  3. For "Reason for reporting", select "Impersonation".
  4. Answer "Who is this account impersonating?" and follow the instructions the form gives for that choice.
  5. Paste the fake profile link and your real profile link where the form allows, then submit.

US accounts use a separate request form that asks for valid identification and an electronic signature. If the non-US form asks you to prove who you are, upload only what it requests, only on tiktok.com, and never send a MyKad copy to someone who contacts you offering to help.

#What to Write So TikTok Can See the Deception

Because fan and parody accounts are allowed, your report works best when it shows how this account misleads people. Keep it short and factual. For example:

This account uses my name and my profile photo and presents itself as me. It has no fan or parody label. It is messaging my followers and asking them to send money for a prize. My real account is [your profile link]. I did not create or authorise the fake account.
  • Say which photos or videos it copied and where the originals are on your real profile.
  • Say whether the display name, username or bio mimics yours.
  • Mention messages sent to your followers, and what they asked for.
  • Leave out guesses about who is behind it. State only what you can show.

#Protect Your Followers While TikTok Reviews It

TikTok's help pages do not publish a review time for impersonation reports, so assume it may take a while. Your followers are the people at risk in the meantime.

  • Post a short video or story from your real account: the username of the fake, and a plain line that you will never ask for money or codes by message.
  • Pin a comment or update your bio with the same warning.
  • Message close contacts directly, especially older relatives, who are the usual targets of "I need help urgently" scripts.
  • Ask followers to report the fake too, one honest report each. Do not organise a mass-reporting campaign or ask people to send false reports.
  • Tell followers who were contacted not to reply, click links or send codes, and to report the messages in the app.

If friends are receiving money requests in your name on other apps too, our guide to a hacked account messaging your friends has a warning script you can adapt.

#Mistakes That Weaken an Impersonation Report

  • Reporting under a generic reason such as spam, instead of "Pretending to Be Someone".
  • Reporting before saving screenshots, then finding the fake has renamed itself.
  • Reporting a clearly labelled fan or parody account as impersonation with no sign that it deceives anyone.
  • Messaging the fake to argue, threaten or bargain. It warns the operator and can create a new scam contact.
  • Trying to log in to the fake, guess its password or hack it. That is not a remedy, and it may break the law.
  • Posting the suspected owner's name, address or family details. Leave identification to TikTok and, if money was lost, the police.
  • Creating a second account to report from if your own is restricted. TikTok's guidelines say you may not use another account to get around a restriction.

#If the Fake Account Scammed Your Followers in Malaysia

TikTok's frauds and scams rules ban impersonating a celebrity to sell something or communicate with users, along with phishing and fraud of any kind. Report the scam messages in the app. If anyone sent money, the money comes first.

  1. The person who paid should call their bank's 24-hour hotline or the National Scam Response Centre on 997 straight away.
  2. Make a police report at the nearest station. The NSRC says reports must be made within 24 hours, and it advises calling the bank or 997 first.
  3. Keep the transfer receipt, the fake profile link and the message screenshots together for the police and the bank.

The NSRC also says it, PDRM, MCMC, BNM and banks will never ask for your username, password, PIN, TAC or OTP. A phishing link sent by the fake can be reported to CyberSecurity Malaysia's Cyber999 incident response centre by online form, email, phone or app.

If TikTok does not act, MCMC's complaint page says to contact the service provider first, then escalate through MCMC's complaint portal if the complaint is unresolved. Keep your TikTok report dates for that step.

#What TikTok Can and Cannot Do

If TikTok finds deceptive account behaviour, its guidelines say it may ban the account, ban additional or new accounts the same person creates, or restrict what the account can do. It decides each case against its own rules. A report can be declined, a fake may return under a new name, and a labelled fan account may stay up. TikTok's help pages do not say it tells reporters who runs an account, and nobody outside TikTok can force a removal.

If a fake keeps coming back, report each new one as it appears, and keep adding to your evidence log. A clear history of repeat copies makes each report easier for a reviewer to understand.

#When a Case Review Makes Sense

Most people can report a fake TikTok account alone with the steps above. Outside help is worth considering when the fake is scamming your customers, when copies keep reappearing, when a takeover and a fake are happening at the same time, or when a business name is involved. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery and digital identity service, looks at the case first and tells you honestly whether the free reports are enough. We prepare evidence and reports through TikTok's own channels, the same ones you can use. You can read how our impersonation removal service works, and our Trust Center explains what we never ask for: your password, codes or access to your account.

#Frequently Asked Questions

Can I report a fake TikTok account without having TikTok?
Yes. For accounts outside the US, TikTok's Report a problem web form takes impersonation reports, and when we checked it, the form opened without logging in.
Will TikTok tell me who made the fake account?
TikTok's help pages do not say it shares that with reporters. If money was lost, give the police the profile link and screenshots, and let them request information through official channels.
Someone is using my photos but a different name. Is that impersonation?
It can be, if the account presents itself as you or uses your photos to mislead people. If your photos are being reused without your permission in other ways, a content removal or privacy report may fit better.
How long does TikTok take to remove an impersonation account?
TikTok does not publish a review time for impersonation reports. Keep your evidence log, warn followers, and report again if the account changes its name or a new copy appears.
Can many people reporting the account get it removed faster?
TikTok judges the account against its rules, so honest reports from people who were actually contacted help more than volume. Do not organise mass or false reports.
