TikTok Account Under Review and You Can't Log In? Read This

TikTok account under review and you can't log in? How Malaysian users tell a temporary hold from a ban, a login limit or a hack, and the one route for each.

10 min read
Short answer

It usually means TikTok has placed a temporary hold on the account while it checks activity or a possible violation. Open Account check to see whether login is restricted, read the notice under Account updates and appeal once if it offers an Appeal button. Do not open a second account or pay for speed-ups. TikTok decides.

Summary
  • An account under review or restricted from logging in is usually a hold while TikTok checks something, which is different from a permanent ban, a login attempt limit or a hack.
  • First open Account check in the Safety Center or TikTok Studio, if the app lets you in, and see whether the Login line shows a warning sign.
  • The official route is the notice under Inbox, System notifications, Account updates, where an Appeal button sits, or Chat with us and the online report form if nothing explains the hold.
  • Do not keep logging in from new devices, open a second account or pay anyone who offers to speed up the review, because TikTok never asks for your password or codes.
  • TikTok makes the final decision and does not publish how long a review takes, so send one clear request with screenshots and keep a record of it.

You try to open TikTok and, instead of your feed, you get a message that your account is under review, or that it is restricted from logging in. Your videos and messages are still there somewhere, but you cannot reach them, and there is no clear reason or timer. In Malaysia people search for it as "akaun TikTok sedang disemak" or "账号审核中" as often as in English.

The short answer: a review screen is usually a hold, not a ban. TikTok is checking something about the account and has paused some or all of it while it does. The fix is to work out which kind of hold you have, use the one official route that matches it, and avoid the things that turn a temporary hold into a lasting problem.

This guide separates a review hold from a permanent ban, a login attempt limit and a hack, shows where TikTok puts the explanation, and covers the scams aimed at people waiting on a review.

#What Does It Mean When TikTok Says Your Account Is Under Review?

It usually means TikTok has paused the account, or parts of it, while it looks at activity or a possible rule violation. Screenshot the screen first. If you can get into the app, open Account check and look at the "Login" line: TikTok's account status page lists "Restricted from logging in" as one of the issues it can show, with a warning sign next to anything affected. Then read the notice under Inbox, System notifications, Account updates, and tap "Appeal" once if it is offered. If nothing in the app explains the hold, contact TikTok once through Chat with us or its online report form. TikTok does not publish how long a review takes, and nobody outside TikTok, including AwareXone, can speed it up.

#Under Review, Banned, Rate Limited or Hacked: Match Your Screen

Several different situations end with "I can't log in". TikTok's help pages we read today do not publish a login screen with the exact words "Your account is under review", and the wording people report varies by app version, language and region. Match on what the screen means rather than the exact phrase.

TikTok login problems and the first step for each, based on TikTok Help Center pages read on 5 October 2026.

If your screen is the permanent banner, our guide to a permanently banned TikTok account covers the download and appeal in order. If it is the attempts message, read what "Maximum number of attempts reached" means before you try again. The rest of this article is about the hold itself.

#Check Account Check for a Login Restriction

Account check is where TikTok shows which parts of an account are affected. It lists five lines: Login, Posts, Comments, Profile and Direct messages. A checkmark means no issue; a warning sign means there is one. TikTok gives two ways in:

  1. From TikTok Studio: tap "Profile", tap the menu button at the top, select "TikTok Studio", then under "More tools" tap "Account check".
  2. From the Safety Center: tap "Profile", tap the menu button, select "Settings and privacy", tap "Support", then "Safety Center", then "Account check".

Both routes need you to be inside the app. If the hold stops you logging in at all, you may not be able to reach Account check, and that is normal. Screenshot whatever the app does show, including the time, and move on to the notice and the contact routes below.

TikTok's page on content violations and bans also explains account status, which reflects your violation history over the last 90 days and can be Healthy, Fair, Severe or Banned. Repeated violations can lead to temporary restrictions on certain features or to a permanent ban. A hold usually sits somewhere before that last step.

#Find the Notice in Your Inbox and Appeal Once

When TikTok takes action, it says the account owner is notified. Violation and restriction notices are kept in one place:

  1. In the TikTok app, tap "Inbox".
  2. Tap "System notifications".
  3. Tap "Account updates". You may need to scroll across to find it.
  4. Open the notice about the restriction and read the reason given.
  5. If you believe it is a mistake, tap "Appeal" and follow the steps.

TikTok's Community Guidelines on enforcement say that once an appeal is filed, you can view its status in the in-app Safety Center. Check there instead of filing again. One clear appeal is better than several rushed ones.

#Creator Features Paused While TikTok Reviews

Some holds hit creator tools rather than the login. TikTok's page on its creator code of conduct says it may temporarily restrict access to some creator features while your account is under review, to stop violative behaviour starting again straight away. The code applies to creators in promotional and monetisation programmes such as TikTok Shop, the Creator Rewards Program and TikTok LIVE, and TikTok says it considers behaviour both on and off the platform.

If that is your situation, the restriction notice sits in the same Account updates folder and carries its own "Appeal" button. TikTok also says you can contact it in the app. A paused creator feature is not a ban on the account, so keep posting within the rules if you can still log in, and do not move your audience to a new account while the review runs.

#If Nothing in the App Explains the Hold

Sometimes there is no notice, no Appeal button and no reason. Then contact TikTok once, through one of the routes in its page on reporting a problem:

  • In the app, if you can log in: tap "Profile", the menu button, "Settings and privacy", then "Help Center" and "Chat with us". TikTok asks you to make sure you are logged in to the correct account first.
  • If you cannot log in: use TikTok's online report form, which lists an "Account access / security" topic. Select it and describe the screen you see.

TikTok says you may be asked to attach screenshots and that only the TikTok Support team can help with these requests. Write three or four factual sentences: your username, the exact words on the screen, the date it started and what you were doing just before. Then wait. Sending the same request repeatedly does not move it up a queue.

#Is It Really a Review, or a Hack?

A sudden hold can follow a takeover. Look for a password that stopped working, an email or phone number you do not recognise on the account, or posts and messages you did not send. TikTok's page on phishing and compromised accounts says to report a compromised account right away, change your password, turn on 2-step verification and check your security alerts and logged-in devices.

If you can reach the login screen but not the account, TikTok's account safety page describes recovery from the Help button, including asking at least two TikTok friends to verify you. If the attacker has already changed the email or phone, our guide to a hacked TikTok account with the email changed goes through getting control back before you deal with any hold.

#What Not to Do While the Account Is Held

Each of these can make the situation harder to put right, and none of them helps the review.

  • Logging in again and again from new phones, emulators or borrowed devices while you wait. It changes nothing about the review and leaves a messier record.
  • Using a VPN or device tricks to look like someone else. Never try to get around the hold.
  • Opening a second account while the hold stands. TikTok says it may restrict or ban accounts used to avoid a restriction or ban on another account you own, for as long as that restriction remains active.
  • Deleting the post you think caused it, which does not remove the violation.
  • Filing several appeals and several reports with different stories.
  • Paying anyone who promises a faster review or an unlock.

#Evidence to Gather Before You Contact TikTok

  • Screenshots of the review or restriction screen, with the date and time visible.
  • A screenshot of Account check, if you can reach it, showing which lines carry a warning sign.
  • Any notice from Account updates, with the reason TikTok gave.
  • Your username, and the email and phone number linked to the account.
  • The date the hold started and what you did on the account just before.
  • For a suspected hack: security alerts, unfamiliar devices and the date you lost control.
  • A note of every appeal or report you send, with the date, so you never send duplicates.

#If You Paid Someone or Shared a Code in Malaysia

Deal with the money first. The National Scam Response Centre's FAQ on the NFCC website says to contact your bank's 24-hour hotline or the NSRC on 997 as soon as you notice an unauthorised transaction, then make a police report at the nearest police station as soon as possible. It also says these parties will never ask for your username, password, PIN, TAC or OTP.

A fake TikTok review page or phishing link can be reported to CyberSecurity Malaysia's Cyber999 incident response centre, through its online form, email, phone or mobile app. If you handed over your login, change the TikTok password the moment you can get in, and remove devices you do not recognise. If your phone suddenly shows no service while TikTok codes stop arriving, call your carrier from another phone and ask whether your SIM was replaced.

#When a Case Review Makes Sense

Most review holds can be handled alone with the steps above, and only TikTok can lift one. Some accounts are not restored whatever is sent. A second opinion helps when the account carries a business or creator income, when a hack and a hold are tangled together, or when TikTok has said nothing at all. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, reviews the screens and what you have already tried, then tells you honestly whether an official TikTok route is still open, on a best-effort basis with no promise of the outcome. Our TikTok account recovery service explains how the review works, and our Trust Center sets out what we will never ask for, starting with your password and codes.

#Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a TikTok account review take?
TikTok does not publish a review time for accounts. Once you have filed an appeal, you can check its status in the Safety Center inside the app.
Is "restricted from logging in" the same as a TikTok ban?
No. It is one of the restrictions Account check can show. A permanent ban shows a banner at login, and TikTok says a banned user can still log in to appeal and download their data.
Can I make a new TikTok account while mine is under review?
TikTok allows multiple accounts, but it says it may restrict or ban accounts used to get around a restriction or ban on another account you own. Wait for the decision instead.
Why is my TikTok account under review when I did nothing wrong?
TikTok uses automated and human review, and content can be checked when it is uploaded, when it gains popularity or when it is reported. A hold is a check, not a finding, and a hacker's activity can also trigger one.
Does deleting videos help my TikTok account review?
No. TikTok says deleting violative content does not remove the violation, and content you have deleted is not reinstated even if your appeal is approved.
