Reddit Someone Posted My Personal Information: Report It
Someone posted your personal information on Reddit? See what the Reddit Rules say, how to report it, what to do if a moderator did it, and what to save.
Reddit's help page says posting someone's personal information, or links to it, is not okay. Report the post or comment from its overflow menu and choose Report. If a moderator posted it, the Moderator Code of Conduct page gives a separate form. Reddit decides, and its pages give no response time.
Summary- Reddit's help page says it is not okay to post someone's personal information or links to it, and that posting it will get the poster banned.
- The report route is the overflow menu on the post or comment, then Report, and the help page also links to a Personal Information report form.
- If a moderator is involved, the Moderator Code of Conduct page says to file a report using its form and lists enforcement actions Reddit may consider.
- Reddit decides, and its pages give no response time. One wrong step can cost you the account, so know what you are doing before you start.

Your name, your workplace or your home address is sitting in a Reddit comment, and strangers are reading it. You have reported it, and nothing has changed yet. Maybe the person who posted it moderates the community where it lives. That is a frightening place to be, and the urge to answer back is strong.
This guide follows Reddit's own pages on personal information, the Reddit Rules, reporting, and the Moderator Code of Conduct. It sets out an order of steps and what to save first. Official steps come first, and Reddit decides what it removes. We cannot promise any result. One wrong step can cost you the account, or make the post spread further, so know what you are doing before you start.

#Quick Answer: What Does Reddit Say?
Reddit's help page Is posting someone's private or personal information okay? says no. It says Reddit is quite open and pro-free speech, but it is not okay to post someone's personal information or links to personal information, and that posting it will get the poster banned. The page also says to edit personally identifiable information out of screenshots. It shows as updated two years ago, so we check it against the current Reddit Rules page below.
#What the Pages Say Counts
| Where | What it says | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Help page: private or personal information | Not okay to post personal information or links to it, including links to public Facebook pages and screenshots of Facebook pages with the names still legible | A link or a screenshot can count, not only typed text |
| Reddit Rules, Rule 3 | Respect the privacy of others. Instigating harassment, for example by revealing someone's personal or confidential information, is not allowed | Revealing personal information to stir up harassment is the rule's own example |
| Help page: public figures | Public figures can be an exception, such as professional links to contact a congressman or the CEO of a company. It adds not to post anything inviting harassment | If you are a private person, this exception is less likely to describe you, but Reddit decides |
The Reddit Rules page says these platform-wide rules are enforced by the admins. It lists enforcement as including asking you nicely to knock it off, temporary or permanent suspension of accounts, removal of privileges, and removal of content.
#The Escalation Ladder
Take these in order. Each rung comes from a Reddit page, and we say where.
- Save the evidence first, before you report. The checklist below is plain logic, not a Reddit requirement, and a report may lead to the post being removed.
- Report the post or comment. The page How do I report a Reddit user? says to tap or click the overflow menu, then select Report, on iOS, Android and reddit.com. It says the person who submitted it, the community it is from and other users who interacted with it are all part of the report under review.
- Report every repost or copy separately. The pages describe reporting specific content, so each new post is its own item. The pages do not say a single report covers copies, so we do not assume that.
- Use the Personal Information report page. The help page says, "To report a Personal Information violation, please visit this page," and links to a report page. We could not open that form, because it asked us to prove we were human, so we do not describe its fields.
- If the poster used a profile, a username or a bio to reveal your details, the page says you can report a user's profile, and choose what you would like to report and what rule it is breaking.
- If you also want to cut off contact, the pages say you can block the accounts you reported.
#If a Moderator Posted It or Ignored It
Reddit's Moderator Code of Conduct page says it was effective June 5, 2025. It says Reddit expects moderators to uphold the Reddit Rules and abide by the User Agreement. It states that if Reddit finds issues unresolvable through educational outreach, or moderators refuse to abide by the code, it may consider enforcement actions such as warnings, removing rule-breaking content, removing moderators from a community and temporary or permanent account suspensions. It ends: "To file a Moderator Code of Conduct report, please use this form."
The code's Rule 3 is titled Respect Your Neighbors and covers moderators using their community to target users for harassment. The page does not say which rule covers a moderator who reveals personal information, so when you file, describe what happened in plain words and let Reddit choose. Report the content itself as well. The page's route to the admins for content is the report on the post, and the code form is for moderator conduct.
#What to Save Before You Report
- A full screenshot showing the username, the community, the date and the address bar, taken before any edits.
- The link to the post or comment, and the links to every repost.
- A short note of when you first saw it and when you reported it, so you can describe the order of events.
- A copy of the report you filed, if the form shows one.
- A second copy of your screenshot with your own details blacked out, for any place you may need to show it publicly.
Our guide on collecting evidence before reporting harassment goes through the same habits in more detail.
#What Not to Do
- Do not post the poster's own details in return. The help page warns against inviting harassment and against cheering on or upvoting obvious vigilantism.
- Do not paste the exposed information into your report or into a public thread, because it spreads the same details again.
- Do not delete your own account in a panic. The pages do not say that deleting your account removes what others posted about you.
- Do not pay anyone who offers to take the post down. The pages describe only Reddit's own reports.
#What the Pages Do Not Say
- They give no time in which Reddit responds to a report, so we cannot say how long to wait.
- They do not say that a removed post is removed from search engines or from archive sites.
- They describe no appeal route if Reddit declines to act.
- They do not give Malaysia specific steps, and we did not open the Malaysian police or regulator pages for this guide.
If you want the local side, our guides on removing a doxxing post with a personal address in Malaysia and on making a police report for online harassment cover it. If you fear for your physical safety, contact your local police first, before anything on this page.
#When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help
Some people sort this out alone, and the official steps come first. The risks are plain. Saving evidence late can leave you with nothing to show. Reporting the wrong item, or leaving copies unreported, can leave your details live elsewhere. Replying to the poster in public can start a fight that lands on your own account. And anyone who promises to remove a post for payment is promising something Reddit's pages do not describe.
If your home address is exposed, a child is involved, your employer has seen it, or your income depends on your name, handing the case to an experienced team such as AwareXone is the safer choice. We can help you gather a clear record, choose the right report route and word your reports calmly. See our content removal help page, and use the Apply for Case Review button at the end of this guide.
#When a Case Review Makes Sense
A review helps when a moderator is involved, the same details keep reappearing, or you are not sure which item to report first. SocialSafe by AwareXone is a Malaysia-based service, independent of Reddit, that helps you use the official routes. We never ask for your password or any code, and we do not promise removal. See how we work on our trust page.
