Account Recovery Cost in Malaysia (RM): What You Pay For
What account recovery costs in Malaysia (from RM2,000), what drives the quote, how payment works (MYR; USD abroad), and why cheap offers are risky.

In Malaysia, paid recovery cases with SocialSafe by AwareXone start from RM2,000, with the final fee confirmed after a case review. Clients outside Malaysia are quoted and billed in USD after review. The platform's own recovery is always free. Official platform recovery is free.
Summary- Always start with the free official route.
- Paid help is labour: case review, evidence, submissions, follow-up, aftercare.
- Very cheap plus "promised" is a red flag pattern, not a bargain.
- A fair quote is written, explains scope and refund terms, and uses a normal payment method.
- A fee buys work and expertise, never a platform decision.

In Malaysia, paid recovery cases with SocialSafe by AwareXone start from RM2,000, with the final fee confirmed after a case review. Clients outside Malaysia are quoted and billed in USD after review. The platform's own recovery is always free. Official platform recovery is free. Paid help costs whatever the provider charges for its time and expertise, and legitimate case work (diagnosis, evidence preparation, repeated submissions, follow-up, and securing the account afterwards) takes hours or days of skilled effort. That's why a $50 "promised recovery" offer is a warning sign: the price only works if there's no real work, or if the "service" is a scam. There's no industry-standard price, so judge a quote on what it includes and how it's paid, not just the number.
#Is account recovery free?
Yes, through the platform itself. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube all offer free recovery flows. Start at instagram.com/hacked, facebook.com/hacked, TikTok's hacked-account page, WhatsApp's help page, or YouTube's hacked-channel page. Meta also sells Meta Verified, a subscription that Meta says includes access to email and chat support (Meta). See paid help vs Meta Verified.
#What are you paying for with a recovery service?
A legitimate engagement usually includes:
- Case review: figuring out what actually happened and whether there's a realistic path
- Route selection: which official channel fits (consumer flow, identity check, business support, rights-based report)
- Evidence preparation: gathering and organising proof of ownership the platform can verify
- Submissions and follow-up: often several rounds over days or weeks
- Coordination across assets: for example a Facebook profile, Page, Business Manager, ad account, and linked Instagram
- Aftercare: two-factor setup, session cleanup, recovery contacts, connected apps, and admin roles
"Case work is measured in stages, not a fixed hour promise, because platforms set the review pace. Intake and evidence packing usually take the first focused block; waiting on the platform is often the longest stretch; aftercare (2FA, sessions, admins) is another deliberate block once access returns. Fees are quoted after review in MYR for Malaysia and USD elsewhere for that reason." - Md Shariar Shanaz Shuvon, Founder, AwareXone
#What affects the quote?
#Platform and issue type
A hacked personal Instagram where you still have your original email is a different job from a disabled Business Portfolio with several ad accounts, or an impersonation case across three platforms. The issue type decides which official routes apply and how many rounds are likely.
#Evidence available
Cases where you still control the original email or phone, have the platform's security emails and have clear photos of yourself on the account usually need less work. Lost email, phone and 2FA together means more evidence preparation.
#Business vs. personal account
Business assets (Pages, Business Portfolio, ad accounts, TikTok Shop) often need coordination across several assets, business verification documents such as SSM registration, and faster handling because revenue is at stake.
#Other factors
- Complexity: a simple hacked personal account is different from a disabled Business Manager with several ad accounts
- Number of assets affected
- Evidence available: lost email, phone, and 2FA all at once means more work
- Urgency and business impact: active ad spend, a shop, or a creator's income
- Language and jurisdiction: documents in several languages, or police reports needed in more than one country
#Why is a $50 "promised recovery" a red flag?
Because the numbers don't add up. Real case work takes time, and no one can promise what a platform will decide. Cheap promised offers usually fall into one of these patterns:
- Advance-fee scam: pay a small fee, then "server", "unlock", or "verification" fees follow. The FTC says unexpected offers that want an upfront fee to recover something you lost are scams (FTC).
- Credential theft: "send your login to verify", and then they take your email and other accounts too.
- Unauthorised access: "hacking it back", which is a crime in Malaysia under the Computer Crimes Act 1997 and in most other countries.
#How does payment work?
In Malaysia, fees are quoted and billed in MYR. Clients outside Malaysia are quoted and billed in USD, with the fee confirmed after case review. We don't publish USD conversions of the RM prices. Here's how we handle payment. The case review is free. If we take the case, you get a written quote with scope, fee and refund terms: from RM2,000 in Malaysia, or quoted in USD after case review elsewhere. A 50% deposit starts the work, and the 50% balance is due within 3 business days after you confirm you have access again. If you cancel before we start work, we refund your deposit in full. If we can't restore your access (the platform gives a final refusal, or 60 days pass after every official route has been tried), we refund 50% of your deposit and you owe no balance. No refund applies once access is restored, or if the case is affected by changes you make without telling us, false information, or using another provider at the same time. Approved refunds are sent within 5 business days to your original payment method; your bank may take a few more days to show it. The platform makes the final decision, so our fee pays for our work, not a promised outcome. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer law in your country.
#Why are some services much cheaper, and what's the risk?
Low prices usually mean one of three things: no real casework (a template form you could fill in yourself), an advance-fee scam where "unlock" fees follow, or attempts at unauthorised access. Unauthorised access is illegal under Malaysia's Computer Crimes Act 1997 and can make your situation worse. See fake hackers offering account recovery.
#Upfront fee, success fee, or both?
Legitimate providers use different models:
| Model | How it works | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed case fee | One price for defined work | Clear scope and refund terms in writing |
| Deposit plus balance | Part upfront, rest on milestones | What triggers the balance |
| Success fee | Pay mainly if access is restored | Who defines "success", and are there hidden upfront charges? |
| Subscription | Monthly prevention and readiness | It shouldn't promise recovery |
There's nothing inherently wrong with paying upfront for real work. What matters is that the scope is written down, the payment goes to an identifiable business through a normal method, and nobody promises an outcome. "Crypto only", gift cards, or a personal account under a different name are red flags.
#What should a fair quote include?
- What the provider will do, and what it won't
- Which official channels it expects to use
- The total fee and when each part is due
- What happens if the platform refuses
- Refund terms
- How your documents are stored and deleted
- A plain statement that the outcome isn't promised
#How much does recovery cost with SocialSafe by AwareXone?
To be transparent: SocialSafe by AwareXone recovery cases start from RM2,000. On our case form, budget bands run from RM2,000-4,000 up to RM15,000+, and the final fee is confirmed after case review. Clients outside Malaysia are quoted and billed in USD, with the fee confirmed after case review. In our words, "a fee never buys a platform outcome." Our optional AwareXone Protect plans for ongoing prevention and recovery readiness are RM199/month (Essential, 1 account), RM299/month (Protect, up to 3 accounts), and RM999/month (Business, up to 10 accounts) in Malaysia. Outside Malaysia, plans are quoted in USD after review. They don't promise recovery, verification, or platform approval. We reply to new cases within five hours (9am-11pm MYT, every day), never ask for passwords or OTPs, and decline cases that look hopeless or improper.
"We keep our caseload limited on purpose so every case gets an accountable human process, not a cheap 'promised recovery' product. The minimum reflects the real time it takes to review evidence and work through the platform's official channels. If a case looks hopeless or improper, we say so before anyone pays." - Md Shariar Shanaz Shuvon, Founder, AwareXone
#Is paid recovery worth it?
It depends on what the account is worth to you. For a personal account where the official flow is working, probably not. For a business Page that brings in daily orders, or a creator account with brand deals at stake, expert help may cost less than the downtime. See DIY vs professional help.
#How do I compare two quotes?
Put them side by side and check:
- Scope: does each quote cover the same assets (profile, Page, Business Manager, ad accounts)?
- Route: does each provider explain which official channel it will use?
- Payment: is it to a business account with an invoice?
- Refund terms: what happens if the platform refuses?
- Aftercare: is securing the account included or extra?
- Promises: does either quote promise an outcome? If so, that's a reason to drop it, not choose it.
The cheaper quote isn't always the riskier one, and the dearer one isn't always better. The written terms are what separate them.
#Are there hidden costs to watch for?
Ask whether the quote includes follow-up rounds, more than one platform, document translation, and help securing the account afterwards. "Extra fees" that appear only after you've paid, especially urgent ones, are a classic scam pattern rather than normal pricing.
