## Short answer

It means YouTube has removed the channel for breaking its rules, and you can usually appeal. Read the termination email, then sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer, click Begin Review and choose Start Appeal. You have up to one year, but appeals are limited. If a hacker caused it, recover the Google Account first.

## Summary

- A terminated channel is YouTube's own decision under its Community Guidelines, copyright rules or Terms of Service, so the way back is an appeal, not a password reset.
- Read the termination email, then sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer, click Begin Review and choose Start Appeal to explain why the decision is wrong.
- If a hacker took the channel first, recover and secure the Google Account before you appeal, because YouTube may reject an appeal while recovery is incomplete.
- Do not open or borrow another channel while the termination stands. YouTube treats that as circumvention and can remove every channel linked to you.
- Nobody legitimate needs your password or verification codes, and Google says it does not work with any account recovery service, so ignore paid unban offers.
- YouTube makes the final decision, the number of appeals is limited, and some terminated channels are never reinstated.

You open YouTube Studio to upload this week's video and the dashboard is gone. In its place is a notice that your channel has been terminated, and an email in your inbox says much the same. Years of uploads, your subscribers and any Partner Program income have all stopped at once.

The short answer: read the reason, then appeal from YouTube Studio using "Begin Review" and "Start Appeal". You have up to one year, but the number of appeals is limited, so one careful appeal beats five rushed ones. If someone hijacked the channel first, recover the Google Account before anything else.

This guide explains what each kind of termination means, how the appeal works step by step, what to do when the channel was hacked, the mistakes that end appeals, and where Malaysian readers can report a scam if an "unban" seller has already taken money.

## What Does "Your Channel Has Been Terminated" Mean, and Can You Appeal?

It means YouTube has removed the channel for breaking its rules, and yes, you can usually appeal. YouTube's [channel terminations page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802168) says you will get an email explaining the reason, that you lose access to the Studio dashboard, and that you can still sign in to YouTube Studio to review the termination and start an appeal. Creators have up to one year from the termination date, and there is a limit on how many times you can appeal the same termination. If a hacker caused it, recover the Google Account first. YouTube alone decides the outcome.

## Which Termination Are You Looking At?

YouTube terminates channels for three broad reasons, and the right response depends on which one applies. The termination email and the Studio notice name the policy, so start there.

The [terminations page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802168) lists repeated violations of the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, a single case of severe abuse (it gives predatory behaviour, spam and pornography as examples), and a channel dedicated to a policy violation such as hate speech, harassment or impersonation. Copyright terminations follow a separate process with its own remedy.

Many creators see the spam wording. A notice commonly reads along the lines of "This account has been terminated due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube's policy against spam, deceptive practices and misleading content or other Terms of Service violations." The exact wording varies by language, region and date, so quote your own notice, not this one.

*YouTube termination notices and the first step for each, at the time of writing.*

| What the notice says | What it usually means | What to do first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Terminated for multiple or severe violations of the Community Guidelines | Either three strikes inside 90 days, or one violation YouTube treats as severe | Check which videos were struck, then appeal from Studio with "Begin Review" |
| Terminated for spam, deceptive practices or misleading content | YouTube believes the channel used artificial engagement, scraped or mass-produced content, scams or misleading metadata | Compare your recent uploads, comments and promotion with the spam policy before you write the appeal |
| Terminated for three copyright strikes | Three legal copyright removal requests were accepted inside 90 days | Consider a counter notification by email, fax or post, or ask the claimant for a retraction |
| Terminated because of a linked channel | Another channel YouTube connects to you was terminated or has three active copyright strikes | Appeal and explain the link plainly if it is wrong; do not open replacement channels |
| Termination arrives after videos you never uploaded appear | The Google Account was probably hijacked and the attacker broke the rules | Recover the Google Account first, then appeal and say the channel was hacked |
| You cannot sign in at all, on YouTube or Gmail | The whole Google Account may be disabled or taken over, not only the channel | Use Google's account recovery flow before looking at the channel |

## How Strikes Add Up to a Termination

Most Community Guidelines terminations are the end of a sequence you can see in Studio. Knowing where you were in that sequence helps you write an honest appeal.

YouTube's [strike basics page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802032) says the first violation is typically a warning. After that, a first strike blocks uploads and other features for one week, a second strike within the same 90 days blocks posting for two weeks, and three strikes in the same 90 days may remove the channel permanently. The same page says a single case of severe abuse can end a channel without any warning, and that deleting content does not remove a strike.

Copyright works on a parallel track. The [copyright strikes page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2814000) says channels that get three copyright strikes in 90 days are subject to termination, and that official notifications come from no-reply@youtube.com. It also says that if a channel linked to yours has three active copyright strikes, your channel is subject to termination too.

## How to Appeal a Terminated Channel in YouTube Studio

The appeal starts inside YouTube Studio on a computer, not in a reply to the email. At the time of writing, the steps YouTube describes are:

1. Open YouTube Studio on a computer and sign in to the Google Account that owns the channel. You may be asked to sign in again.
2. Below the termination information, click "Begin Review". You may need to complete a verification step.
3. Read the stated reason for termination in full and screenshot it, then click "Next".
4. Select "Start Appeal" and click "Next".
5. Give a contact email address that only you can read and explain your reason for appealing.
6. Click "Submit" once, then note the confirmation.

If those steps do not work for you, the [terminations page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802168) links a separate appeal form as the fallback. Open it from that help page rather than from a link someone sends you.

After you submit, YouTube Studio shows a confirmation and an anticipated review time. The outcome arrives by email. If the appeal is accepted, you are sent back to the Studio dashboard. If it is rejected, you are signed out once you accept the decision.

## What to Write in the Appeal

Keep it short and factual. Three to six sentences usually cover it.

- Name the channel and the policy stated in the notice, in your own words.
- Say plainly why you believe the decision is wrong, for example that the flagged uploads are your own original commentary, or that the promotion was ordinary and not automated.
- If something unusual happened, such as a hack, an editor with access, or a sudden burst of bot comments you did not buy, say so and give the rough date.
- If you did break a rule, say what you have changed. Do not claim innocence you cannot support.
- Leave out threats, subscriber counts used as pressure and anything you cannot prove.

For spam terminations, read YouTube's [spam policy](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2801973) first. Its examples include coordinated "sub-for-sub" schemes, repetitive comment spam, content made only to push viewers off YouTube, re-uploads without anything of your own added, mass-produced AI videos with minimal changes, and misleading titles or thumbnails. If any of that describes a third party you hired to grow the channel, say so in the appeal.

## Evidence to Gather Before You Appeal

Gathering this first keeps your appeal accurate and ready for any follow-up questions.

- Screenshots of the termination email and the Studio notice, with the date and the policy named.
- The channel URL and channel ID, plus the Google Account email that owns it.
- Every strike or warning email from no-reply@youtube.com in the last 90 days.
- A list of anyone who had channel permissions, and when you added or removed them.
- Any agency, editor or growth service you paid, with dates and what they did.
- For a hack: Google security alerts, the date you lost access, and the date you recovered the account.
- For copyright: licences, receipts or written permission for the material claimed.

While you gather this, download what you still can. The terminations page says you can no longer download your YouTube content from a terminated channel, but you can still download your Google data. Google's [Takeout guide](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3024190) explains how to export it.

## If Your Channel Was Hacked and Then Terminated

Hijacked channels are often terminated because the attacker uploaded scam or spam content. The fix runs in a fixed order: account first, appeal second.

YouTube's [hacked channel page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/76187) says every channel is tied to at least one Google Account, and that you must recover that account before the channel. Use Google's [account recovery steps](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7682439), then change the password, remove unknown devices and ask every channel manager to secure their accounts too. Once you are back in, look for YouTube's email about appealing the termination and use the appeal form it points to. YouTube warns that the appeal may not be accepted if recovery is incomplete.

Timing matters here. The same page says hacked channel support is limited to incidents within the past nine months, and that eligible creators, such as Partner Program members, can contact Creator Support once the Google Account is recovered. Our guide to [recovering a hacked YouTube channel](https://www.awarexone.com/research/youtube-channel-hacked-recovery) covers the takeover itself in more depth, and if Google has disabled the whole account, start with [appealing a disabled Google Account](https://www.awarexone.com/research/google-account-disabled-appeal).

## Why You Must Not Start a New Channel

Opening a new channel while the termination stands usually makes things worse. YouTube calls it circumvention.

The terminations page says that once your channel is terminated, you are prohibited from using, possessing or creating any other YouTube channels. It adds that this covers your existing channels, any new ones you create or acquire, and channels where you are repeatedly or prominently featured. Letting a terminated creator use your channel is also forbidden. In practice, a backup channel, a friend's channel you front, or a bought channel can all be removed, and your appeal is then harder to argue.

If you run a Brand Account with several managers, check who owns what before you act. Our note on [Brand Account ownership](https://www.awarexone.com/research/youtube-brand-account-recovery) explains the roles.

## Mistakes That End Appeals

- Appealing again and again on the same termination. YouTube caps the number of appeals without publishing the figure, so treat each one as possibly the last.
- Appealing a hacked channel before the Google Account is fully recovered.
- Opening or borrowing another channel, which YouTube treats as circumvention.
- Filing a counter notification you cannot back up. YouTube warns that it starts a legal process.
- Blaming YouTube, threatening legal action or pasting a template that does not match your channel.
- Paying someone who promises an "unban" or asks for your login.

## Unban Sellers and Fake YouTube Support

Terminated creators attract scammers quickly. Offers arrive by email, Telegram, Facebook comments or X replies, sometimes in Bahasa Melayu, with lines such as "Kami boleh pulihkan channel anda dalam 24 jam" (we can restore your channel in 24 hours). Treat every such offer as a scam.

Google's [account recovery page](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7682439) says it does not work with any service that claims to provide account or password support, and tells you not to give out passwords or verification codes. Nobody outside YouTube can reinstate a channel, and nobody legitimate needs your password, codes or backup codes to help you write an appeal.

> Warning: **If you already paid or shared a code.** Change your Google password and sign out other sessions at once. If money left your account, call the [National Scam Response Centre on 997](https://www.malaysia.gov.my/en/categories/safety-and-community/cybersecurity/nsrc-997-hotline), which operates daily, 24 hours; the government page asks victims to call within 24 hours of discovering the scam, contact their bank and lodge a police report. A hijacked account can also be reported to [CyberSecurity Malaysia's Cyber999](https://www.cybersecurity.my/portal-main/services/cyber999-overview), which helps Malaysian users escalate abuse reports.

## Copyright Terminations: A Different Route

If three copyright strikes ended the channel, the Studio appeal is not your only option. The terminations page says you can still file a counter notification if you believe the claims are wrong, but the web form is unavailable for terminated channels, so it has to go by email, fax or post. You can also ask the claimant directly to retract the claim. A counter notification is a legal step, so only file one when you own or have licensed the material, or genuinely rely on an exception such as fair use.

## When Expert Recovery Help Makes Sense

Most creators can file a clear appeal on their own with the steps above. Outside help is worth considering when the channel earned real income, a hack and a termination are tangled together, several managers or a Brand Account are involved, or a first appeal has already been rejected and you are unsure whether to use another.

SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, looks at the case first and tells you honestly whether the official routes still have a chance. We work only through YouTube's and Google's own appeal and recovery processes, prepared properly, and we never ask for passwords or codes. You can read how we work on our [Trust page](https://www.awarexone.com/trust) and what the [YouTube channel recovery service](https://www.awarexone.com/platforms/youtube) covers. YouTube still makes the final decision, and some terminated channels do not come back.

## FAQ

### How long does a YouTube termination appeal take?

YouTube does not publish a fixed time. After you submit, YouTube Studio shows an anticipated review time for your appeal, and the result arrives by email.

### Can I appeal a terminated YouTube channel from my phone?

YouTube's published termination appeal steps are for YouTube Studio on a computer. If those steps fail, use the appeal form linked from YouTube's channel terminations help page.

### Do I lose my YouTube earnings if my channel is terminated?

YouTube says Partner Program members are no longer entitled to earn revenue once terminated, and that it may withhold unpaid earnings. A successful appeal is the only official way back to the dashboard.

### Can I make a new YouTube channel after termination?

No. YouTube prohibits using, creating or acquiring any other channel while you are terminated, and treats it as circumvention that can remove every linked channel.

### What happens if my termination appeal is rejected?

YouTube signs you out once you accept the decision. Because the number of appeals per termination is limited, only appeal again if you have genuinely new facts.

### Will deleting the flagged videos get my channel back?

No. YouTube says deleting content does not remove a strike, and a terminated channel loses access to the Studio dashboard anyway. An appeal is the route that can change the decision.
