## Short answer

An X suspension for inauthentic behaviour means X believes the account broke its Authenticity policy, for example through automation, fake personas or coordinated accounts. Log in first and complete any phone or email prompts. If the suspension stays, file an appeal through X's official form while logged in. Do not create a replacement account.

## Summary

- X's Authenticity policy covers inauthentic accounts, behaviours and content, including fake personas, unauthorised automation and coordinated multiple accounts.
- X says that if you log in and see prompts to add a phone number or confirm your email, following them may unsuspend the account.
- If that does not work, X says to log in to the suspended account, open a new browser tab and file an appeal.
- Opening a new account to get around a suspension is not allowed, and X says it may suspend other accounts it links to you.
- Your appeal is stronger when it explains, honestly and briefly, how you use each account and any tools connected to it.

You opened X and found your account suspended, or an email arrived saying the account broke the rules on inauthentic behaviour. Maybe you run a brand account, schedule posts with a tool, or manage a few profiles for work. Now you are not sure what you did, or how to get it back without making things worse.

The short answer: work through X's own steps in the right order. First log in and complete any phone or email prompts, because X says that can unsuspend some accounts. If the suspension stays, file an appeal through X's official form while logged in to the suspended account. Do not open a new account to replace it.

This guide explains what inauthentic behaviour means under X's rules, the order of steps X describes, how to match your evidence to each part of the policy, a short appeal outline and the limits you should expect.

## What Does Inauthentic Behaviour Mean on X?

X's [Authenticity policy](https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/authenticity) says, "You may not engage in inauthentic activity that undermines the integrity of X." It groups this into inauthentic accounts, inauthentic behaviours and inauthentic content. Examples X gives include automated or scripted accounts that do not comply with its Developer Policy, fake personas using stock, stolen or AI-generated profile photos, impersonation, and operating several accounts to boost trends, engage with the same posts or amplify your own account.

X says that besides showing Account suspended on a profile, it may add more details about why an account was suspended, so it does not always say which example applied. Suspension emails that name inauthentic behaviour are reported by users rather than published by X as a template, so read your own notice carefully and keep a screenshot.

X also says it allows up to ten accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes, and it lists allowed cases such as accounts with distinct identities or use cases. Having more than one account is not the problem by itself. Using them to repeat or amplify the same activity is.

## The Order X Describes for Getting Unsuspended

1. Log in to the suspended account. X's [suspended accounts page](https://help.x.com/en/managing-your-account/suspended-x-accounts) says that if you see prompts to provide your phone number or confirm your email address, you should follow them to get the account unsuspended.
2. If the account shows as locked rather than suspended, use X's [locked or limited account help](https://help.x.com/en/managing-your-account/locked-and-limited-accounts). It describes verifying by phone, email or recaptcha.
3. If the prompts do not restore the account and you believe X made a mistake, stay logged in to the suspended account.
4. Open a new browser tab and go to X's [appeal form for a locked or suspended account](https://help.x.com/en/forms/account-access/appeals). When we checked, the form said "You are not currently logged into a suspended X account" if you were not logged in, so the login step matters.
5. Submit one clear appeal, then wait for X's response.

> Warning: **No new or replacement accounts.** Opening a new account to get around a suspension is not allowed. X's Authenticity policy lists ban evasion, including creating new accounts, imitating a suspended account to replace it, repurposing an existing account, or having someone else run an account for you. X says it may also suspend any other account it believes the same person is operating in violation of the earlier suspension. Stay with the official appeal.

## Match Your Evidence to the Rule

An appeal is easier to review when it answers the likely concern directly. Use the table to think about which part of the policy may apply and what honest information addresses it. Only include what is true for you.

| Part of the Authenticity policy | What X describes | What you can explain or show |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Unauthorised automation | Automated or scripted accounts that do not comply with the Developer Policy | Which scheduling or posting tools you connected, and that you have removed any you do not trust |
| Fake personas | Stock, stolen or AI-generated photos and misleading profile details used to deceive | That the profile represents you or your organisation, with a link to your official website or other public profiles |
| Multiple accounts and coordination | Several accounts used to boost trends, engage with the same posts or cross-post the same content | How many accounts you run, what each one is for, and that they do not post the same material |
| Impersonation | Posing as another person, group or organisation to deceive | That the account is yours, or that it is a clearly labelled parody, commentary or fan account |
| Account compromise | Unauthorised access to someone's account | If you were hacked, the dates and changes you did not make, and that you have secured the account |

If you need to show the account is really yours, our guide to [proving ownership of a social media account](https://www.awarexone.com/research/prove-social-media-account-ownership) lists the kinds of evidence that help.

If several people post for a brand, note who has access and how they log in. X's policy names having someone else operate an account on your behalf as ban evasion when it is used to get around a suspension, so be clear that any team access is for the original account only.

## A Short Appeal Outline

Keep it calm, factual and short. Do not paste the whole policy back to X. A simple structure works:

- Who you are and what the account is for, in one or two sentences.
- Which part of the rules you think may have been triggered, if you can tell.
- What you do with the account and any tools linked to it, stated honestly.
- What you have changed, such as removing a third-party app or stopping cross-posting between accounts.
- A polite request that X review the suspension.

Write it yourself, in your own words. Copying a template word for word gives the reviewer nothing specific about your account. Do not claim things you cannot support.

## Scams Aimed at Suspended X Users

Suspended accounts attract offers of quick reinstatement. Treat these as warning signs:

- Someone offering to unsuspend the account through a contact inside X. Only X decides appeals.
- A request for your password, login codes or backup codes. Never share them with anyone, including a recovery service.
- A link to an appeal page that is not on x.com. Type the address yourself.
- An offer to sell you an aged or verified account to replace yours. X lists repurposing an existing account or imitating a suspended account to replace it as ban evasion.

Our guide to [fake recovery services](https://www.awarexone.com/research/account-recovery-scams-how-to-spot-fake-recovery-services) covers how these approaches look in practice.

## What to Expect After You Appeal

X's [suspended accounts page](https://help.x.com/en/managing-your-account/suspended-x-accounts) says, "Sometimes a real person's account gets suspended by mistake, and in those cases we'll work with the person to make sure the account is unsuspended." It also says X may suspend accounts temporarily or, in some cases, permanently. X does not publish a response time for appeals.

Some appeals are accepted and some are not, and the decision belongs to X. If the account was locked rather than suspended, or you have a general suspension without the inauthentic behaviour wording, our broader guides on [appealing an X suspension](https://www.awarexone.com/research/x-account-suspended-appeal) and [fixing a locked X account](https://www.awarexone.com/research/x-account-locked-fix) may fit better.

## When a Case Review Makes Sense

If the account carries a brand, a business or several team members' work, a review before you appeal can help you explain your setup clearly. SocialSafe by AwareXone is a Malaysia-based service, independent of X, that looks at your notice, accounts and tools and helps you prepare an honest appeal through X's official form. We never ask for your password or codes, we never create replacement accounts, and we cannot overturn X's decision. See our [X account help](https://www.awarexone.com/platforms/x) and how we work on our [trust page](https://www.awarexone.com/trust).
