## Short answer

If the WhatsApp code is not arriving, check the number and country code (+60 for Malaysia), make sure you have signal and can receive SMS, wait for the timer, then request a voice call. Turn off SMS blockers and restart the phone. Never ask anyone else for the code: a message asking you to share it is a scam.

## Summary

- Check the country code and number carefully.
- Wait for the countdown before requesting again.
- Use the voice call option if SMS fails.
- Too many requests can cause a wait before the next code.
- No real person will ask you to forward a WhatsApp code.

A missing code is one of the most common WhatsApp problems in Malaysia. In Malay: kod pengesahan WhatsApp tak masuk. Most cases are signal, number format or timing. Bahasa Melayu ringkas: semak nombor, tunggu pemasa, cuba panggilan suara, dan jangan kongsi kod dengan sesiapa.

## Why is the code not arriving?

- The number or country code is wrong.
- Weak signal or no SMS service, for example roaming.
- An SMS blocker or spam filter app.
- You requested codes too often and must wait.
- Your SIM was swapped or the line is suspended.

WhatsApp's Can't register phone number page says that for security reasons, the registration code is only sent by SMS or phone call, except that it can be sent by email if you're re-registering and already added an email address to your account. Enter your full international number with the country code and no leading zeros, wait for the timer to finish, which can take up to 10 minutes, and choose Call me if the SMS doesn't arrive. Don't guess the code, or you'll be locked out for a period of time. If you see You have guessed the code too many times, wait the time shown; WhatsApp says there's no way to make it faster.

## What should I try?

1. Confirm the number in full international format, for example +60 12 345 6789.
2. Restart the phone and check you can receive SMS from others.
3. Wait until the timer ends, then choose Call me.
4. Remove SMS filter apps.
5. If nothing arrives, contact your telco to check the line.

If the code still doesn't come, WhatsApp suggests using the latest version of the app, restarting your phone for 30 seconds, deleting and reinstalling WhatsApp after backing up your chats, checking reception by texting your own number from another phone, and turning on Wi-Fi Calling in your phone's settings if your network is weak.

## Is a stranger trying to get my code?

If you get codes you did not request, someone may be trying to register your number. Do not share them. Read our guide on [stolen WhatsApp codes](https://www.awarexone.com/research/whatsapp-hacked-verification-code-malaysia).

WhatsApp warns that if you report the compromised account you're trying to recover, it might be banned and you could lose access to your account or data, so recover it first. It also recommends telling family and friends, because the person using your account could impersonate you in chats and groups, and says WhatsApp notifies you when someone tries to register an account with your phone number. Never share your registration code with anyone, not even friends or family.

WhatsApp's About suspicious messages and scams page lists signs to look out for: typos, being asked to tap a link or download an app, requests for card or bank details, birth dates or passwords, being asked to forward a message or pay to use WhatsApp, someone pretending to be a person you know, and messages about lotteries, jobs, investments or loans. When someone not in your contacts messages you for the first time, WhatsApp shows whether you have groups in common and which country their number is registered in. WhatsApp says it's free, so anyone asking for payment to use it or to unban an account is likely after your money or details.

## Which fix matches my situation?

| What you see | Likely cause | Try this |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Nothing arrives at all | Wrong number format or no signal | Check +60 format, restart, then Call me |
| You must wait before requesting again | Too many requests | Wait for the timer shown in the app |
| Codes arrive that you did not request | Someone is trying your number | Do not share them, turn on two-step verification |
| SMS works for others but not WhatsApp | SMS filter or telco block | Remove filter apps, ask your telco |

## What common mistakes should I avoid?

- Sharing the code with anyone, even friends.
- Requesting codes many times in a row.
- Entering the number without the +60 country code.
- Reinstalling WhatsApp without a backup.

## How do I keep the account safe while I sort this out?

- Never share a login code, password or backup code with anyone, including people who say they work for Meta, the police or a recovery service.
- Make sure the email address and phone number on the account are ones you still control, and remove any you do not recognise.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where the platform offers it, ideally with an authenticator app, and keep your backup codes somewhere offline.
- Log in only from the official app or by typing the address yourself, not from links in messages, comments or ads.
- Keep screenshots of every notice, email and step you take, with dates, in case you need them for a review or a report.
- Make one careful attempt at each official step rather than many rushed ones, because repeated failed attempts can trigger extra checks.

Ask for help before you appeal if the account matters to your income, your business or your memories, if you have already had one appeal rejected, or if you cannot tell whether the problem is a bug, a restriction or a hack. That is where most avoidable losses happen.
