## Short answer

It means WhatsApp has banned your business number for a suspected policy breach. If you believe it was a mistake, tap Request review once in the Business app and wait for the decision there. No Request review option means the ban is final. Never pay an unban seller or share your verification code. Only WhatsApp decides.

## Summary

- "This phone number can't use WhatsApp" in the WhatsApp Business app means WhatsApp has banned the business number for a suspected policy breach.
- If you believe it was a mistake, tap Request review once in the Business app and wait for the decision to appear there.
- No Request review option means WhatsApp treats the ban as final, and a banned account also loses its Meta Verified subscription.
- The usual reasons are messaging people who never opted in, bulk or automated sending, unofficial apps, and selling goods the business policies prohibit.
- Numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform are appealed in Business Support Home, not in the app, so check which product your number runs on.
- Only WhatsApp can unban a number and some bans stay in place. Never pay an unban seller or share your verification code with anyone.

You open the WhatsApp Business app to reply to this morning's orders and the chats are gone. In their place is a notice saying your business number cannot use WhatsApp. Customers are still messaging, and nothing is reaching you.

This is a ban on the number. The only official way back is the "Request review" button on that screen, if it appears. A reinstall, a new phone or a paid "unban" service will not change WhatsApp's decision.

This guide explains what the notice means, how to request a review, why business numbers get banned, what happens to Meta Verified, and how the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API) is different.

## What Does a WhatsApp Business Ban Mean?

It means WhatsApp has banned the phone number on your WhatsApp Business app because it believes the account broke its rules. WhatsApp's page on [bans in the WhatsApp Business app](https://faq.whatsapp.com/723378546580115) gives the notice as "This phone number can't use WhatsApp: [phone number]. You can request a review of this number. Most reviews are completed within 24 hours." If you think the ban is a mistake, tap "Request review" in the app. If you do not see that option, WhatsApp says the ban is final and cannot be appealed. A banned account also loses its Meta Verified subscription. Only WhatsApp can lift the ban.

Search terms vary. In BM people type "WhatsApp Business kena ban" or "nombor WhatsApp Business disekat"; in Chinese, "WhatsApp Business 被封号". They all describe the same screen. The exact wording can change between app versions and languages, so match the meaning rather than every word.

## Business App or Business Platform: Which One Is Banned?

Check this first, because the two products are appealed in different places. The WhatsApp Business app is the free app on your phone with a green "B" icon. The WhatsApp Business Platform is the API that larger businesses reach through Meta or a software provider, usually managed from Meta Business Suite.

*WhatsApp Business notices and the first step for each, at the time of writing.*

| What you see | Where it is | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| "This phone number can't use WhatsApp: [phone number]" | WhatsApp Business app on your phone | The business number is banned | Tap "Request review" once, if it appears |
| The same notice with no "Request review" option | WhatsApp Business app | WhatsApp treats the ban as final | Stop resubmitting; tell customers where else to reach you |
| A warning, or a block of 1, 3, 5, 7 or 30 days on sending messages | Business Platform, shown in Business Support Home | A policy violation with a time-limited restriction | Read the violation; appeal it there if you believe you complied |
| An account lock | Business Platform | An indefinite block on sending any messages | Request a review in Business Support Home; Meta says a lock can only be removed by appeal |
| "This account can now use WhatsApp" | Either app | The ban has been lifted | Verify the number again to get back in |

Temporary limits and timers have their own guide on [WhatsApp restrictions and temporary bans](https://www.awarexone.com/research/whatsapp-temporarily-banned-restricted). ## How to Request a Review in the WhatsApp Business App

The review starts on the ban screen. There is no email address or paid channel that replaces it. At the time of writing, the steps WhatsApp describes come down to this:

1. Make sure you are using the official WhatsApp Business app, updated from Google Play or the App Store.
2. Screenshot the ban notice with the phone number and the date visible.
3. Tap "Request review" and confirm once if the app asks.
4. If the app lets you pick or type a reason, give the true one. Do not claim the number was hacked unless it was.
5. Wait. WhatsApp says you will get a notification once the review is complete and can see the decision in the Business app.
6. Check progress by opening the app, not by submitting again.

WhatsApp's help page adds that contacting WhatsApp outside the review process, or through another person's account, will not speed up the review or change the decision. "Most reviews are completed within 24 hours" is the notice's own wording, not a promise about your case.

If the ban is lifted, WhatsApp's page on [what to do after an unban](https://faq.whatsapp.com/1297640017664693) says you will see "This account can now use WhatsApp" and will need to verify the account by entering your phone number again.

> Note: **WhatsApp makes the decision.** A review is a request. Some business numbers come back and some do not, and nobody outside WhatsApp can overrule the outcome. Plan for both.

## Why Do WhatsApp Business Numbers Get Banned?

Usually because of how the number sends messages or what it sells. The WhatsApp page on [following the Business Messaging and Commerce policies](https://faq.whatsapp.com/933578044281252) and the [WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy](https://business.whatsapp.com/policy) set the rules. The ban notice page names three breaches: the Meta Verified for Business Terms of Service, the Business Messaging Policy and the Meta Commerce Policy, for example spam, trying to sell prohibited items, or putting users' safety at risk.

- No opt-in. The Business Messaging Policy says you may only contact people who gave you their number and agreed to receive messages from you. WhatsApp adds that a customer messaging you first does not count as opt-in for future promotional messages.
- Ignoring opt-outs. You must honour a request to stop, made on or off WhatsApp, and remove that person from your contacts.
- Bought or borrowed contact lists. WhatsApp's page on [using WhatsApp responsibly](https://faq.whatsapp.com/361005896189245) warns against messaging numbers you did not get with consent.
- Bulk or automated sending. The same page says not to bulk message, auto-message or auto-dial, and that WhatsApp uses machine learning and user reports to ban accounts that send unwanted automated messages. It also says heavy use of broadcast lists can lead to reports, and that WhatsApp bans accounts reported multiple times.
- Unofficial apps. WhatsApp's page on [unofficial apps](https://faq.whatsapp.com/1217634902127718) says modified versions such as GB WhatsApp or FM WhatsApp break its Terms of Service and can lead to a temporary or permanent ban.
- Prohibited goods. The Business Messaging Policy lists regulated or restricted goods, including alcohol and tobacco, drugs, medical and healthcare products, real money gambling, and real, virtual or fake currency, with limited exceptions set out in the policy.
- Asking for sensitive numbers. The policy says businesses must not ask people to share full payment card numbers, financial account numbers or personal ID card numbers. In Malaysia that includes asking for a customer's full MyKad number in chat.

The policy's enforcement section also says WhatsApp may limit or remove a business's access if it receives significant negative feedback, and that users can block or report businesses. In practice, a promotion sent to people who did not expect it is one of the fastest ways to collect those reports.

## What Happens to Meta Verified When You Are Banned?

It ends. WhatsApp's ban page says a banned account automatically loses its Meta Verified subscription. If the account broke the Meta Verified for Business terms, the Business Messaging Policy or the Commerce Policy, the subscription is cancelled and a refund is unavailable.

WhatsApp's page on [Meta Verified refunds](https://faq.whatsapp.com/352796424225584) repeats that policy violations lead to cancellation with no refund. Refunds on that page cover other cases, such as a business that never completed verification. If you are unsure whether you qualify, the refund rules there are the place to check, not a third party promising to get the money back. Verification problems in general are covered in our guide to [failed Meta business verification](https://www.awarexone.com/research/meta-business-verification-failed-malaysia).

## Appealing a Ban on the WhatsApp Business Platform

If your number runs on the API, the appeal lives in Meta's tools, not on a phone screen. Meta's developer page on [WhatsApp Business Platform policy enforcement](https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/overview/policy-enforcement/) explains that accounts usually get a warning first. Repeat violations such as spam or high-risk categories can bring messaging blocks that grow longer, then an account lock, and eventually a permanent disable. For severe harms such as scams or the sale of illegal drugs, Meta says it offboards accounts immediately.

At the time of writing, the review steps on that page are:

1. Open Business Support Home from "All tools" in Meta Business Suite or Business Manager.
2. Select the relevant messaging account.
3. Choose the violation from the list and click "Request Review".
4. Enter supporting details in the dialog and click "Submit". The request moves to the "In Review" tab.
5. Wait for the decision in Business Manager. Meta says this typically takes 24 to 48 hours, and the violation is either left "Unchanged" or marked "Reversed".

Meta notes that not all spam violations can be appealed, and some businesses have to wait for the restriction period to end. If you use a software provider, ask them to confirm which violation is showing, but make the appeal from your own Business Support Home.

## Before You Tap Request Review: Evidence to Keep

The in-app review gives you little or no room to explain. Keep this record anyway. It helps if you later deal with Meta, your provider, MCMC or the police.

- A screenshot of the ban notice, with the number and the date.
- Proof the number is yours: telco bill or SIM registration, and your business registration, website or social pages that list it.
- How customers joined your list, for example a sign-up form or a checkbox at checkout, with the wording they agreed to.
- A note of any bulk sender, automation tool or unofficial app you used, and when you removed it.
- Any Meta Verified receipts.
- The date and time you tapped "Request review", so you never resubmit by mistake.

## Mistakes That Make a Business Ban Harder to Undo

- Tapping "Request review" again and again. Once is enough.
- Switching to a "WhatsApp blaster", a modified app or a new SIM to keep promotions going. That repeats the behaviour behind the ban and can put other numbers at risk.
- Carrying on broadcasts to people who never opted in, on any number.
- Wiping the phone or deleting the app. WhatsApp's [account bans page](https://faq.whatsapp.com/465883178708358) says chats and backups are unavailable while the number is banned and come back only once it is unbanned.
- Paying anyone who offers to "buka semula" or unban a business number.

> Warning: **Nobody can sell you an unban.** WhatsApp says third party services cannot ban or remove a ban on a WhatsApp Business account, and only WhatsApp can do either. Offers in comments, adverts or DMs, often using a "Meta Support" name, are scams. Nobody legitimate needs your 6-digit verification code, your two-step verification PIN or your Meta Business Suite password.

These scripts appear in BM, English and Chinese, and some copy Meta's logo and colours. Our guide to [spotting fake Meta support](https://www.awarexone.com/research/fake-meta-support-scam-malaysia) shows the common patterns.

## Malaysia: Money, Codes and Complaints

Most business bans stay between you and WhatsApp. These channels matter when more has happened.

- Money lost to a fake unban seller, or customers scammed by someone using your number: the [National Scam Response Centre](https://nfcc.jpm.gov.my/index.php/en/about-nsrc) says to contact your bank's 24-hour hotline or call 997 straight away (997 runs from 8.00am to 8.00pm daily, including public holidays), then make a police report.
- A security incident, such as a hijacked number or a compromised Business Suite: CyberSecurity Malaysia's [Cyber999 response centre](https://www.cybersecurity.my/portal-main/services/cyber999-overview) is the national point of contact for reporting computer security incidents.
- An unresolved complaint: MCMC's [complaints page](https://www.mcmc.gov.my/en/make-a-complaint/make-a-complaint) asks you to go to the service provider first, then lodge an unresolved complaint through [aduan.mcmc.gov.my](https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my/). A complaint does not override WhatsApp's decision.
- Phone lost signal around the time of a takeover: call your telco from another phone and ask whether a replacement SIM was issued.

While you wait, tell customers where to reach you: a note on your website, Instagram or Facebook Page, your Google Business Profile and email. Do not set up another number to get around the ban.

## When a Case Review Makes Sense

Many owners can handle this alone: there is one button in the app, or one appeal in Business Support Home. A second opinion helps when a takeover and a ban are mixed together, when you are not sure whether the number runs on the app or the API, or when a Meta Business Suite problem sits behind it. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, reviews the screens and the timeline and tells you honestly which official route is still open, including when none is. The [recovery hub](https://www.awarexone.com/all-types-of-social-media-problem-solutions) explains how a case review works, and our [Trust Center](https://www.awarexone.com/trust) sets out what we never ask for, from passwords to verification codes.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Why was my WhatsApp Business account banned without warning?

WhatsApp does not always explain which rule it applied. The common causes are messages to people who never opted in, bulk or automated sending, an unofficial app, many user reports, or selling items its business policies prohibit.

### How long does a WhatsApp Business ban review take?

The Business app notice says most reviews are completed within 24 hours, but there is no fixed time for your case. For the Business Platform, Meta says decisions typically take 24 to 48 hours.

### Can I get a refund for Meta Verified after a ban?

Not if the ban was for a policy breach. WhatsApp says a banned account loses Meta Verified automatically, and a subscription cancelled for violating the policies is not refunded.

### Will switching back to the normal WhatsApp app lift the ban?

No. The ban is on the phone number, so moving it between the WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business apps does not change WhatsApp's decision.

### Can AwareXone unban my WhatsApp Business number?

No. Only WhatsApp can lift a ban. We can review your case and help you use WhatsApp's own review or Meta's appeal properly.
