## Short answer

In Australia, Meta has extra verification requirements for advertisers of financial products and services, and unverified ads are rejected. To fix a rejection, complete financial services verification in Meta's Business Help Center, add the 'Paid for by' disclaimer, check your licence details match, and resubmit the ad.

## Summary

- AFSL or exemption verification is required.
- Ads need a 'Paid for by' disclaimer.
- Unverified ads are rejected.
- Authorised representatives need the licensee's details.

Here's what Meta checks for Australian financial ads.

Meta's About verification requirements that may affect financial services advertisers page explains that, to help prevent fraud and impersonation and in some cases to comply with regulators, Meta may ask you to verify information about yourself or your organisation before you can publish ads that promote financial products or services. It lists Australia among the regions where advertisers targeting audiences with these ads need verification, alongside Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Meta says the requirements for each region may be very different, and the details sit in a country drop-down on that page, so read the Australia section yourself while logged in.

The same page gives examples of products that may need a licence: insurance products, mortgages, long and short-term loans, investment products and opportunities, and credit card applications. It also lists ads that can generally run without verification, as long as they don't focus on an in-scope product: brand ads for banks and insurers, news articles about financial products, financial education, and training on how to apply for or manage loans.

## What does Meta's financial ad policy say?

Meta's Financial and Insurance Products and Services policy, part of its Advertising Standards, says ads for credit cards, loans or insurance must only target people 18 years or older. It says advertisers may need to be licensed in the country they target, that Meta may review licensing or otherwise confirm the advertiser is authorised, and that advertisers must follow all applicable laws, including licensing and disclosure rules. It also bans ads that directly ask people to enter personal or financial information, such as bank account or card details.

Some products cannot be advertised at all. Meta's Prohibited Financial Products and Services policy lists payday loans, paycheck advances, bail bonds, loans that must be repaid in full within 90 days, penny auctions, binary options, initial coin offerings, contract for difference trading, and misleading student loan services. If your ad promotes one of these, verification will not fix the rejection.

## How do I fix a rejection?

1. Complete financial services verification.
2. Fix anything the rejection reason points to.
3. Check the ad, landing page and targeting against the policy.
4. Resubmit the ad.

Meta's How to troubleshoot a rejected ad page says you get an email when an ad is rejected, with a link to Meta Business Support Home where you can see the reason. You can then edit the ad, create a new one, or request another review if you think the decision was wrong. Meta warns that if you delete the ad you may lose the ability to request another review, and that editing or deleting a rejected ad does not remove the violation from your account.

To request a review, Meta's steps are: go to Business Support Home, select the account with the rejected ads, select the ads you think were wrongly rejected, then click Request review and Submit. Meta says it relies more on human reviewers for these re-reviews, that asking for one will not hurt your standing, and that if the ad is rejected again you cannot request another review of the same ad. Meta's About Meta Business Support Home page adds that the account overview shows whether your accounts have advertising restrictions, so check there too before you run new financial ads.

## What common mistakes should I avoid?

- Advertising before verification.
- Missing the disclaimer.
- Deleting the ad before deciding whether to request a review.
- Creating new accounts to bypass review.

## How do I keep the account safe while I sort this out?

- Never share a login code, password or backup code with anyone, including people who say they work for Meta, the police or a recovery service.
- Make sure the email address and phone number on the account are ones you still control, and remove any you do not recognise.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where the platform offers it, ideally with an authenticator app, and keep your backup codes somewhere offline.
- Log in only from the official app or by typing the address yourself, not from links in messages, comments or ads.
- Keep screenshots of every notice, email and step you take, with dates, in case you need them for a review or a report.
- Make one careful attempt at each official step rather than many rushed ones, because repeated failed attempts can trigger extra checks.

## When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Ask for help before you appeal if the account matters to your income, your business or your memories, if you have already had one appeal rejected, or if you cannot tell whether the problem is a bug, a restriction or a hack. That is where most avoidable losses happen.

### Do crypto ads count?

Meta's Prohibited Financial Products and Services policy bans ads for initial coin offerings, binary options and contract for difference trading. Other crypto products may fall under other Meta rules, so read the rejection reason and the policy it names before you edit or resubmit.

### Can I advertise as an authorised rep?

Meta's Financial and Insurance Products and Services policy says advertisers may need to be licensed in the country they target and that Meta may review licensing or otherwise confirm authorisation. Meta's public pages don't spell out Australia's details, so follow the steps Meta shows you in the verification flow.

### How long is review?

Meta does not publish a fixed time.

### Can you help?

Yes. AwareXone can look at your rejection notice, ad and landing page in a free case review and tell you whether to fix the ad, complete verification or request a review.

### Can AwareXone check my case before I appeal?

Yes. AwareXone offers a free case review. Send us what you see on screen and what you have already tried, and an expert will tell you whether to appeal, wait or take another route. We never ask for your password or codes.
