## Short answer

Check four things in order: your balance against the minimum shown on Medium's payouts page, your connected Stripe account, your taxpayer information and your enrolment status. Medium's help pages say a balance below the minimum rolls over to the next month.

## Summary

- Medium's payouts page says earnings must reach a minimum before a payout is sent to Stripe, and a smaller balance rolls over to the next month.
- A payout needs a valid Stripe account connected to Medium and verified taxpayer information on file, according to Medium's help pages.
- Medium's status page says incomplete payout settings can make enrolment inactive and remove your stories from the paywall.
- Stripe needs your legal name. Medium's page says a mismatch can make identity checks fail, and Stripe Support should be able to resolve it.
- Check the dashboard first. One wrong step with Stripe details can hold up a payout, so know what you are doing before you start.

You wrote through the month, the stories earned, and the money has not arrived. The Partner Program dashboard shows a number, your bank shows nothing, and it is hard to tell whether this is a delay, a setup gap or a real problem with the account.

This guide follows Medium's own help pages. It puts the checks in order: the minimum balance and rollover, the Stripe account, the taxpayer information and the enrolment status. We are not Medium and cannot move a payout. We will not repeat dates or amounts here, because they can change and Medium's pages are the place to read the current figures.

## What Is the Minimum Payout Threshold?

Medium's [Medium Partner Program payouts](https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/25267297935895-Medium-Partner-Program-payouts) page says your total earnings must reach a minimum before a payout is sent to your Stripe account. We do not quote the amount, so read the minimum shown in the official page. The page says that if your earnings do not reach it in a given month, the balance rolls over to the following month until the threshold is met.

It also says some countries may have additional minimum payout thresholds enforced by Stripe, and it points to Stripe's minimum payout amounts for details. If you write from Malaysia, check that Stripe page for your country, since the Medium page does not name individual countries.

The rollover balance is shown in your Partner Program dashboard, and the page says it appears only when you have unpaid earnings. Medium says you may receive a rollover statement by email before the dashboard shows the updated amount, and that a discrepancy during this period is expected and will resolve once the dashboard is updated. So a gap between the email and the dashboard is not on its own a sign of a fault.

## Which Checks Come First When a Payout Is Missing?

| Check | What Medium's pages say | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Balance against the minimum | A balance below the minimum rolls over to the next month | Compare your dashboard balance with the minimum shown in the official page |
| Stripe account connected | You need a valid Stripe account connected to your Medium account | Open your payout checklist and confirm Stripe shows as connected |
| Taxpayer information | Verified taxpayer information must be on file, collected through Tipalti | Open the taxpayer information page and complete all required fields |
| Enrolment status | Status is active only when payout settings are complete | Look at the status in your Partner Program dashboard |
| Payout history | You can review previous payouts in the Payout history tab | Check whether a payout was already sent |

Work down the table and stop at the first row that does not match. That row is where to put your effort, and it keeps you from changing settings that were fine.

## Is My Stripe Account the Problem?

Medium's [Set up payouts with Stripe](https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003928833-Set-up-payouts-with-Stripe) page says you need to create or connect a Stripe account, and that Stripe is Medium's third-party payout processor. It lists these points:

- You must maintain an active Stripe account at all times to receive payouts.
- You must use your legal name. Pen names are fine on Medium, but Stripe requires your legal name to verify your identity and process payouts.
- Stripe requires two-factor authentication through SMS or the Google Authenticator app.
- Payouts can only be transferred to a bank account. Debit cards are not supported.
- Medium cannot modify the details of your Stripe account. To change the email on it, you contact Stripe Support.
- To change the bank account used for payouts, you log in to your Stripe Dashboard and update the details there.

The page also answers a known snag. If Stripe's identity verification keeps failing when you upload documents, it says this is usually caused by entering a company name as your individual name at sign-up, which creates a mismatch in the automatic verification. It tells you to contact Stripe Support, who it says should be able to resolve it manually. So an identity failure is a matter between you and Stripe, and Medium cannot fix it for you.

## Taxpayer Information and Enrolment Status

Medium's [Enroll in the Medium Partner Program](https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/115011694187-Enroll-in-the-Medium-Partner-Program) page says that to receive payouts you need a connected Stripe account and verified taxpayer information. Medium uses Tipalti to collect the taxpayer information, and you receive an email confirmation once it has been submitted. The page notes that Medium is not able to give tax advice, and tells you to consult a tax professional about filing.

The page also says you can put stories behind the paywall before setting up payouts. But if your balance reaches the minimum and your payout settings stay incomplete for the period the status page sets, your enrolment status becomes inactive and your stories are removed from the paywall. Medium's [Medium Partner Program enrollment status](https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/29975006166679-Medium-Partner-Program-enrollment-status) page repeats that rule. It says stories then become available to all readers and stop accruing earnings, and that any accumulated balance may be forfeited if not claimed before the deadline.

That makes the dashboard status the most useful single check. If it says inactive, the status page gives the route: meet all eligibility requirements and re-enrol, then complete your payout settings. It adds that your balance will only be paid out if it meets the minimum. If your status is active but at risk of becoming inactive, it says to complete your payout settings before the listed deadline, and that no re-enrolment is needed.

## What Does Medium Say About Forfeiture?

Medium's Stripe page says that if your Stripe account is inactive or unable to receive payouts for the period the Stripe page sets, any accumulated unpaid earnings will be forfeited. It points to the Medium Partner Program forfeiture policy for details, and we have not summarised that policy here. Read it in full if your balance has been waiting for a long time. The date and limits are Medium's to set, so use the page, not a blog post or a forum answer.

## What the Pages Do Not Say

The pages we read do not say why a particular payout was missed, and they do not list every reason Stripe may hold or return a transfer. They do not name Malaysia or give a Malaysia-specific list. They do not say that contacting Medium Support will release a payout, and they do not promise that a forfeited balance can be recovered. We do not know how your case will end, and we will not guess.

## When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Some payout gaps are a setup step, and the official checks come first. The risks are plain. Medium's pages say that incomplete payout settings for the period Medium sets can make enrolment inactive and take your stories off the paywall, and that a balance can be forfeited if it is not claimed in time. Stripe verification depends on your legal name matching, so a wrong entry can send you round the loop again. If a stranger offers to release your earnings or asks for your Stripe login, treat it as a red flag, because the pages describe your own Stripe account and Stripe Support as the routes. Our guide to [spotting fake recovery services](https://www.awarexone.com/research/account-recovery-scams-how-to-spot-fake-recovery-services) lists the signs.

If you are unsure about any step, or the earnings matter for your income, handing the case to an experienced team such as AwareXone is the safer choice. We can help you read the dashboard, put the checks in order and write a clear message to Medium Support. We never ask for your password. See our [business and creator account help](https://www.awarexone.com/services/business-creator-recovery) page, and use the Apply for Case Review button at the end of this guide.

## When a Case Review Makes Sense

If your status shows inactive, the dashboard and the email disagree for a long time, or your account has other limits, a review can help you plan the next step. SocialSafe by AwareXone is a Malaysia-based service, independent of Medium, that helps you use the official routes. We never ask for your password or login codes, and we cannot change Medium's decisions. See how we work on our [trust page](https://www.awarexone.com/trust). If the problem is a suspension and not a payout, our guide on a [suspended Medium account](https://www.awarexone.com/research/medium-account-suspended-appeal) covers that route.
