## Short answer

Instagram's in-app notice says that from 28 October 2026 you can no longer link Reels together and existing links are removed, while your Reels, views and insights are not affected. To keep multi-part content working, number each part, say in each caption where the next part is, pin Part 1 and group parts in a highlight.

## Summary

- Instagram's notice says Reel links stop working from 28 October 2026.
- The Reels themselves, views and insights are not affected, according to the notice.
- Instagram has not named Series as the replacement, and Series is still a limited test.
- Captions, pinned Reels and highlights are the practical way to guide viewers now.
- Losing the link button is a product change, not a restriction on your account.

If your multi-part Reels suddenly lost the button that sent viewers to the next part, nothing is wrong with your account. Instagram has retired the feature that let creators link one Reel to another. Industry reports and the in-app notice creators saw from mid-October say the change took effect on 28 October 2026. Meta has not published a separate newsroom post, so treat details beyond the notice as reported, not official.

## What exactly did Instagram change?

The notice shown to creators reads, in short, that linking Reels will no longer be available, that from 28 October you won't be able to link Reels together, that existing links will be removed, and that your Reels, views and insights will not be affected. Instagram first added linking in August 2025, and trade press reported the reason given was to simplify the Reels experience.

## Is Instagram Series the replacement?

Not officially. Reports describe Instagram Series as a test with select creators that groups Reels into episodes on a profile tab. Instagram has not said it replaces linking, and most accounts do not have it. Do not plan a campaign around Series unless you can see the option on your own account.

## How do I keep viewers moving between parts now?

1. List every multi-part series you have, in order, while you still remember the chain.
2. Edit each caption to say the part number and where to find the next part, for example: Part 2 is pinned on my profile.
3. Pin Part 1 to the top of your grid.
4. Add each part to a story highlight named after the series.
5. Use a consistent cover design and a number on each cover so the order is visible on your grid.
6. Check brand contracts that promised linked Reels and agree an alternative with the brand.

## Could this affect my reach or account status?

The removal itself should not. If your reach dropped at the same time, check Account Status in Settings. A recommendation restriction or a policy warning is a separate issue, and fixing captions will not solve it. See our guide on [reach drops and shadowbans](https://www.awarexone.com/research/instagram-shadowban-reach-dropped).

## How do I keep the account safe while I sort this out?

- Never share a login code, password or backup code with anyone, including people who say they work for Meta, the police or a recovery service.
- Make sure the email address and phone number on the account are ones you still control, and remove any you do not recognise.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where the platform offers it, ideally with an authenticator app, and keep your backup codes somewhere offline.
- Log in only from the official app or by typing the address yourself, not from links in messages, comments or ads.
- Keep screenshots of every notice, email and step you take, with dates, in case you need them for a review or a report.
- Make one careful attempt at each official step rather than many rushed ones, because repeated failed attempts can trigger extra checks.
