## Short answer

"Not eligible to be recommended" means Instagram will not show your account or content to people who do not follow you, usually because some content goes against its Recommendation Guidelines. Open Account Status, review the listed content, remove or edit what you can, and request a review only for items you believe were misjudged.

## Summary

- It limits discovery in Explore, Reels and suggestions, not your followers' feeds.
- It is based on Instagram's Recommendation Guidelines, which are stricter than the Community Guidelines.
- Account Status lists the content involved and may offer a review.
- It is not a ban, but repeated issues can lead to stricter action.

This label is one of the clearest explanations Instagram gives for a sudden fall in reach. It is not a ban, but it can hurt creators and businesses badly. Here is what to do.

## What does not eligible to be recommended mean?

Instagram's Recommendation Guidelines describe content it allows on the app but does not recommend to non-followers, such as some sensitive, low-quality or borderline content. If your account has such content, Account Status may show that your account is not eligible to be recommended.

Instagram's Recommendation eligibility page explains that recommended posts can show up in places like Explore, Reels and Feed recommendations to people who don't already follow you. If you use a professional account, Account Status shows whether your content may be eligible to be recommended, whether something in your profile, like your photo or bio, goes against the Recommendations Guidelines, and a sample of content that can't be recommended right now, along with the guideline that applies. You can edit or remove that content, and you may be able to request a review. Instagram says eligibility doesn't guarantee your content will be recommended, that the guidelines only apply to public accounts and to people who don't follow you, and that your content can still show up for your followers.

## How do I fix it?

1. Go to Settings, Account Status and open the recommendation section.
2. Read each listed post and the reason given.
3. Delete or edit posts that clearly fall under the guidelines.
4. Use Request a review for items you believe were judged wrongly, once per item.
5. Keep posting content that follows the guidelines and check status again after a few days.

Instagram's Recommendations on Instagram page says its Recommendations Guidelines are stricter than the Community Standards, because recommended content comes from accounts people haven't chosen to follow. Content can be allowed on Instagram but not recommended if it is sensitive, for example content that may depict violence, that may be sexually suggestive, or that promotes regulated products. Unoriginal content repurposed from another source with only minor edits, long captions unrelated to the content, coordinated comment networks, and content rated false by third-party fact-checkers can also be left out. Instagram says it also tries not to recommend accounts that recently broke the Community Guidelines, repeatedly used misleading practices to build a following, such as buying likes, or have been banned from running ads.

## Does deleting posts help?

Often it does, because eligibility depends on what is on the account now. Keep copies before you delete anything you may need as evidence.

## Can my followers still see my posts?

Yes. The label affects recommendation to people who do not follow you. Followers can still see your posts in feed and stories.

Yes. Instagram's Recommendation eligibility page says that even if you're not eligible to be recommended, your content can still show up for your followers. What drops is reach to people who don't follow you, in Explore, Reels, Search, Suggested Accounts and Feed recommendations.

## What common mistakes should I avoid?

- Buying followers or engagement to push reach back up.
- Reposting the same removed content.
- Deleting the account and starting again without checking the cause.
- Changing many settings at once so you cannot see what helped.

Instagram's Secure your Instagram account page calls two-factor authentication the single most effective step to protect an account from hackers, because it asks for a code when someone logs in from a device Instagram doesn't recognise. It also recommends a strong, unique password you haven't used elsewhere, avoiding personal details like names and birthdays, and never giving your password to anyone you don't know and trust.

## How do I keep the account safe while I sort this out?

- Never share a login code, password or backup code with anyone, including people who say they work for Meta, the police or a recovery service.
- Make sure the email address and phone number on the account are ones you still control, and remove any you do not recognise.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where the platform offers it, ideally with an authenticator app, and keep your backup codes somewhere offline.
- Log in only from the official app or by typing the address yourself, not from links in messages, comments or ads.
- Keep screenshots of every notice, email and step you take, with dates, in case you need them for a review or a report.
- Make one careful attempt at each official step rather than many rushed ones, because repeated failed attempts can trigger extra checks.

## When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Ask for help before you appeal if the account matters to your income, your business or your memories, if you have already had one appeal rejected, or if you cannot tell whether the problem is a bug, a restriction or a hack. That is where most avoidable losses happen.

### How long does it last?

Instagram doesn't publish a fixed time. Its Recommendation eligibility page says Account Status shows a sample of the content that can't be recommended right now, which you can edit, remove or ask Instagram to review.

### Can I appeal?

Yes, in many cases. Instagram says that if your content goes against the Recommendations Guidelines, you may be eligible to request a review from Account Status.

### Will it get my account disabled?

Not by itself. Recommendation limits cover content that's allowed but not recommended. Disables follow repeated or severe Community Standards violations, according to Meta's Restricting accounts page.

### Can AwareXone check my case before I appeal?

Yes. AwareXone offers a free case review. Send us what you see on screen and what you have already tried, and an expert will tell you whether to appeal, wait or take another route. We never ask for your password or codes.
