## Short answer

Instagram blocks a bio link when the domain is flagged as spam or unsafe, the page breaks its guidelines, you've changed links too often, or your account has a restriction. Try a different, clean link; if that works, the original domain is the problem. If no link saves, check Account Status, update the app and wait a day before retrying.

## Summary

- Flagged domains are the most common cause.
- Link shorteners shared by spammers often fail.
- Frequent edits can trigger temporary limits.
- Restricted accounts may lose bio link features.
- You can add links to your bio from Edit profile.

A missing bio link costs creators and shops sales. Here's how to find the cause fast.

## Why won't my link save?

| Cause | Test | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Flagged domain | Another clean link saves | Use your own domain |
| Shortener | Link uses a shared shortener | Use the full URL |
| Too many edits | You changed links many times today | Wait before trying again |
| Account restriction | No link saves at all | Check Account Status |

The simplest test is to try a different link. Save a well-known, clean address, such as your country's government website or a major news site, then remove it again. If that saves but your own link does not, Instagram is objecting to your domain or the page it leads to, not to your account. If no link saves at all, the problem is more likely an account restriction or an app issue.

## Why would my domain be flagged?

Meta's Spam policy covers links that are misleading, that impersonate trusted sites, or that lead to pages with deceptive features such as pop-ups or forced redirects. A domain can also be flagged because of what other people did with it. Free link shorteners and some shared link-in-bio pages are used by many accounts, so a few bad users can get a whole domain blocked. Your own domain, with a clean landing page that matches what your profile promises, is the most reliable choice.

- Open the link on a phone with mobile data and check it loads quickly with no pop-ups or redirects.
- Make sure the page is not asking for logins or payment details before showing anything.
- Check the site has not been hacked. A hacked site can redirect visitors to scams without you knowing.
- If you use a link-in-bio service, try linking straight to your own website instead.

## How do I add a link?

1. Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, then follow Instagram's steps to add a link.
2. Choose Add external link.
3. Paste the full URL including https.
4. Save and check it from another account.

Instagram's Add a website to your Instagram profile page says you can add up to five websites, and that anyone, on or off Instagram, can see them. You can reorder links from Edit profile, then Links, then Options. Meta's How to add a link page to your Instagram bio with Meta One page explains that subscribers on eligible Meta One plans can add up to 20 links with an image and title on a link page, and that teens cannot use that feature. It also notes that links still need to follow the Community Standards and Terms of Use.

## What if no link saves at all?

Update the app, log out and back in, and try from a browser at instagram.com. If it still fails, open Account Status, which Instagram's Check your Account Status on Instagram page describes, and look for restrictions. If a recent edit spree triggered a temporary limit, Instagram's Temporary limited access to settings on Instagram page explains that some settings can be limited for a while to protect the account. Waiting a day usually clears it.

## What common mistakes should I avoid?

- Retrying the same blocked link over and over.
- Using a shortener shared by many accounts.
- Assuming a ban when only one domain is flagged.
- Linking to pages with many redirects.

Do not try to get around a blocked domain by spelling it with spaces, dots or emoji in the bio text. Instagram can treat that as an attempt to avoid its link checks, and it does not help your followers either. Fix the site, or use a different clean domain you control.

## How do I keep the account safe while I sort this out?

- Never share a login code, password or backup code with anyone, including people who say they work for Meta, the police or a recovery service.
- Make sure the email address and phone number on the account are ones you still control, and remove any you do not recognise.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where the platform offers it, ideally with an authenticator app, and keep your backup codes somewhere offline.
- Log in only from the official app or by typing the address yourself, not from links in messages, comments or ads.
- Keep screenshots of every notice, email and step you take, with dates, in case you need them for a review or a report.
- Make one careful attempt at each official step rather than many rushed ones, because repeated failed attempts can trigger extra checks.

## When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Ask for help before you appeal if the account matters to your income, your business or your memories, if you have already had one appeal rejected, or if you cannot tell whether the problem is a bug, a restriction or a hack. That is where most avoidable losses happen.

- Your main business domain is blocked and sales depend on it.
- No link saves and Account Status shows a restriction.
- Your website may have been hacked or is redirecting to strange pages.
- Posts that mention your link are being removed as spam.

### How many links can I add?

Instagram's help page says up to five websites. Eligible Meta One subscribers can add up to 20 links on a link page, according to Meta's help page for that feature.

### Why was my working link removed?

The domain may have been flagged after you added it, for example if the site changed, was hacked, or is shared by accounts that posted spam.

### Do link-in-bio tools get blocked?

Some shared domains are flagged more often because many accounts use them, including spammers. Linking straight to your own domain is usually safer.

### Can I appeal?

Use review options where Instagram offers them, for example on a removed post. For a blocked domain, fixing the site and trying again after a day is often the practical route.

### Can AwareXone check my case before I appeal?

Yes. AwareXone offers a free case review. Send us what you see on screen and what you have already tried, and an expert will tell you whether to appeal, wait or take another route. We never ask for your password or codes.
