## Short answer

If you can't add an admin to your Facebook Page, check you have full control, then invite the person through Page access and ask them to accept. Restrictions on your account, the Page or the person can block it, and Pages in a business portfolio assign access there.

## Summary

- You need full control to add people.
- Invites must be accepted.
- Restrictions on either account can block it.
- Business portfolio Pages are managed in Business Settings.
- Security checks can delay new access.

Here's how to work out why the invite fails.

## What blocks adding an admin?

| Blocker | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| You don't have full control | Ask a full-control admin |
| Invite not accepted | Ask them to check notifications |
| Account restricted | Check Account Status |
| Page in a business portfolio | Assign in Business Settings |
| New login on your device | Wait for the security hold |

Facebook Pages now use Page access rather than the older admin, editor and moderator roles on most Pages. Facebook's Give, edit or remove Facebook Page access guide explains that people can have Facebook access with full control, Facebook access with partial control, or task access managed from Meta Business Suite. Only someone with full control can give another person full control, so the first check is your own level of access.

To see it, switch into the Page and open Settings, then Page setup, then Page access. Facebook's See your Facebook Page role or access page explains where your access is listed. If your name sits under partial access or task access, you can see the Page but you cannot add new people with full control.

## What if the Page is in a business portfolio?

If the Page belongs to a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite, people are usually added in the portfolio's settings rather than on the Page. Meta's guide to adding people to a business portfolio explains that you invite a person to the portfolio by email, then assign them to the Page with specific permissions. If you are not an admin of the portfolio itself, the option may be missing or greyed out, even though you manage the Page day to day.

Agencies often own the portfolio that holds a client's Page. If the agency stops responding, Meta has a separate process to request access to a Page, and a different one to request full control of a business portfolio. Both ask for evidence that you are entitled to the asset, such as business documents that match the Page.

## How do I add someone?

1. Switch into your Page.
2. Follow Facebook's 'Give someone Facebook access' steps on its Page access help page.
3. Choose full control or task access.
4. Ask the person to accept the invite.

The person must have a Facebook profile and accept the invitation from their notifications, or from Page access on their side. Invitations can expire, and if the person ignores it you will need to send it again. Facebook may also ask you to re-enter your password or confirm with two-factor authentication before it sends the invite.

## Why does it say try again later?

A message to try again later after a new login is often a temporary security hold. Facebook can restrict sensitive changes, such as adding people to Pages, for a short period after a login from a new device or location, or after a password change. Facebook's page on limits on the use of certain features explains that some features can be limited when activity looks unusual. Wait, keep using the account normally from your usual device, and try again rather than repeating the attempt many times in a row.

## What common mistakes should I avoid?

- Giving full control to agencies.
- Sharing your login instead.
- Ignoring pending invites.
- Not checking Business Settings.

The safest structure is at least two trusted people with full control, each with two-factor authentication turned on, and everyone else with partial or task access. That way, one lost phone or one hacked profile does not take the whole Page with it. Review the list every few months and remove people who have left your business.

## How do I check the Page is not restricted?

Open Professional dashboard or the Page's Account Status, sometimes shown as Page status, and look for removed content, restricted features or a warning that the Page is at risk. If the Page or your own profile has a restriction on managing Pages, Facebook will block new access until it ends. Your personal profile matters here because Page access is tied to it: if your profile is limited, the Page tools that depend on it are limited too. Fix or wait out the restriction before you try to add anyone, and avoid creating a second profile to manage the Page, because Facebook treats that as a way to avoid enforcement.

## How do I keep the account safe while I sort this out?

- Never share a login code, password or backup code with anyone, including people who say they work for Meta, the police or a recovery service.
- Make sure the email address and phone number on the account are ones you still control, and remove any you do not recognise.
- Turn on two-factor authentication where the platform offers it, ideally with an authenticator app, and keep your backup codes somewhere offline.
- Log in only from the official app or by typing the address yourself, not from links in messages, comments or ads.
- Keep screenshots of every notice, email and step you take, with dates, in case you need them for a review or a report.
- Make one careful attempt at each official step rather than many rushed ones, because repeated failed attempts can trigger extra checks.

## When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Ask for help before you appeal if the account matters to your income, your business or your memories, if you have already had one appeal rejected, or if you cannot tell whether the problem is a bug, a restriction or a hack. That is where most avoidable losses happen.

- A person you do not recognise has full control of the Page.
- The only full-control admin has left, been hacked or been disabled.
- The Page sits in an agency's business portfolio and the agency will not respond.
- Facebook keeps showing a restriction when you try to change Page access.

### Why does it say try again later?

Facebook's Page access page does not explain this message; check your Page role and Account Status first.

### Can I add someone who isn't my friend?

Yes. You can search for the person by name or by the email address linked to their Facebook profile. They still have to accept the invitation.

### Can a hacker be removed?

Yes, but only by someone who has full control of the Page. If the hacker removed you, use Facebook's guide to recover a hacked Page that you manage, and secure your own profile first.

### Can you help?

Yes. AwareXone offers a free case review for Page access problems. We check how the Page is set up and tell you which official route fits.

### Can AwareXone check my case before I appeal?

Yes. AwareXone offers a free case review. Send us what you see on screen and what you have already tried, and an expert will tell you whether to appeal, wait or take another route. We never ask for your password or codes.
