## Short answer

Meta has stopped that ad account from running ads, usually for a policy breach, a failed payment or suspected hacking. On a computer, open Meta Business Support Home and follow the steps under What you can do. Pay any unpaid balance, or secure the admins' profiles if hacked. Only an admin can request a review, and Meta decides.

## Summary

- A disabled ad account means Meta has stopped that account from running ads, usually for a policy breach, a failed payment or activity that looks like a hack.
- Open Meta Business Support Home on a computer, select the disabled account and follow the steps under What you can do before anything else.
- Only an admin on the account can request a review, reviews are limited in number, and Meta says a completed review is final.
- A payment disable is usually fixed by paying the balance, while a suspected hack needs the admins' Facebook profiles secured before any review.
- Nobody from Meta will ask for your password, login code or bank OTP by message, and no seller can unban an ad account for money.
- Meta makes the decision, and an account disabled for policy that stays ineligible for six months cannot be reinstated.

Your Raya campaign was meant to go live this morning. Instead, Ads Manager shows the ad account as disabled, every ad has stopped, and the email from Meta says little more than "Your ad account has been disabled". Your profile and Page still work.

Most of the time this is fixable from one place: Meta Business Support Home. The disable has a reason, the reason decides the fix, and Meta shows you the next step for your account. A policy review is limited and final, so it pays to work out which kind of disable you have before you press anything.

This guide covers the three common causes (policy, payment and security), how to request a review, the six-month limit, Instagram boosts that stop working, and the scams that target advertisers in Malaysia straight after a disable.

## What Should You Do If Your Meta Ad Account Is Disabled?

On a computer, open Meta Business Support Home, choose the disabled ad account and follow the steps under "What you can do". Meta's page on [troubleshooting a disabled or restricted account](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/422289316306981) says it may ask you to confirm your identity, complete verification, secure your account or request a review, and that only an admin on the account can request the review. If the disable came from a failed payment, pay the balance in Billing and payments instead. If you think someone else got into the account, secure the admins' Facebook profiles first. Meta decides every review, and nobody outside Meta can reactivate an ad account for you.

## Which Kind of Disable Is It?

Meta disables or restricts ad accounts for different reasons, and each one has a different fix. Meta's page [about advertising restrictions](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/975570072950669) lists the triggers: not following its Advertising Standards or other policies, a business portfolio or asset that Meta suspects was hacked, not meeting its two-factor authentication requirements, and unusual payment or account activity, including high rates of failed or disputed payments.

The wording of the email or banner varies by app version, region and account type, so match the situation, not the sentence.

*Meta ad account notices and the first step for each, at the time of writing.*

| What you see | What it usually means | What to do first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ad account disabled, with a policy named in Business Support Home | Meta believes the account or its ads broke the Advertising Standards or other policies | Read the reason, fix the ads or landing page, then use "Request review" once |
| Ads paused and Billing and payments says the account is unsettled | A payment failed, so Meta disabled the account until the amount due is paid | Pay the balance with "Pay now" or add a working payment method |
| Ads, admins or payment methods you did not add, or spend you do not recognise | Someone may have got into a profile with access to the account | Secure the admins' Facebook profiles, tell your bank, then contact Meta support |
| A step to confirm your identity, complete verification or secure the account | Meta needs this step done before the account can move forward | Complete it inside Business Support Home only |
| You personally cannot advertise anywhere | Your own Facebook or Instagram profile is restricted from advertising, not just one ad account | Request a review for your profile; see our guide on person-level restrictions |
| Instagram says "We're unable to connect to your Meta ad account" | Instagram lists this among its boost errors; on its own it does not mean the account is disabled | Check which ad account is linked, then check its status in Business Support Home |

A restriction can also sit above or below the ad account. Meta says it can restrict a business portfolio, an ad account, a Page or a personal profile. If your own profile is the one restricted, our guide to [being restricted from advertising on Meta](https://www.awarexone.com/research/restricted-from-advertising-meta-malaysia) explains that path.

## How to Request a Review in Business Support Home

Use this route for a policy decision you believe is wrong. Meta's page on [requesting a review for a restricted advertising account](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/530209463124901) describes these steps at the time of writing:

1. Log in on a computer with the Facebook profile that is an admin on the ad account. Other roles cannot request a review.
2. Open Business Support Home and select "Account status overview" in the left menu.
3. Select the disabled or restricted ad account.
4. Read the reason shown, take a screenshot, and note the ad account ID and the date.
5. Fix what the notice points to before you appeal: pause or edit the ad, correct the landing page, or remove the product that breaks the policy.
6. In the "What you can do" section, select "Request review" and complete the on-screen steps.
7. Wait for the result in Business Support Home and the admin's email. Do not submit a second request while the first is open.

Meta says a review is typically completed in 48 hours, though some take longer. If Meta lifts the restriction, the account is reinstated, but ads that were running before will not restart on their own. You need to turn them back on in Ads Manager.

> Note: **Reviews are limited and final.** Meta says there is a limited number of times you can request an advertising restriction review, and that once a review is complete, the decision is final. Treat your first request as the one that counts. Meta decides, and some ad accounts are not reinstated.

## The Six-Month Limit and Your Prepaid Balance

Time matters for policy disables. Meta's troubleshooting page says that if an ad account disabled for a policy violation stays ineligible for reinstatement for six months, unused prepaid services may be forfeited where the law allows, and after that the account cannot be reinstated. Meta also says it may disable an account permanently before the six months in some circumstances, and points to its Payments Terms for the detail. Request the review early, and download your receipts from Billing and payments now.

## Disabled After a Failed Payment: Fix Billing First

A payment disable is the most common and the easiest to reverse. Meta's page on [fixing a failed payment](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/268196136699959) says that when your payment method fails, your ads are paused and the ad account is disabled until you pay the amount due. It also says you will not be charged more until you pay.

1. Go to Billing and payments and select the ad account.
2. Click "Payment methods", then "Pay now".
3. Choose a working payment method or add a new one.
4. If the payment fails again, try later with a different card, as Meta suggests.
5. If your account uses available funds instead of automatic billing, use "Add funds". Meta says the account may take a little while to return to a good state afterwards.

Meta says that in some countries 3DS verification, usually a one-time password from your bank, is required when you add a new card. It says the check can fail because of a wrong CVV or OTP, an OTP that never arrives, or your bank's own rules, and suggests contacting your bank or adding another payment method. Meta also says it may limit how many ad accounts can use the same payment method. Enter a bank OTP only on your bank's or Meta's own payment screen, and never read it out to anyone who calls or messages you.

If nothing works, Meta's page points you to "Contact support" at the bottom of Business Support Home.

## Disabled Because Meta Thinks the Account Was Hacked

Sometimes the disable is Meta protecting you. Its page on [unrecognised ad account activity](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/524424920973484) says that if it saw suspicious activity, it may have removed admins, paused your ads or changed your payment methods to recover the account. Meta's page on [recovering a hacked business portfolio](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/25302697499431030) lists the warning signs: new users or admins you did not approve, ad accounts or campaigns you did not create, sudden spend, and posts that are not yours.

Then a policy appeal is the wrong first move. Work in this order:

1. Secure every admin's Facebook profile through [facebook.com/hacked](https://www.facebook.com/hacked), on a device that has logged in before.
2. Call your bank's hotline to block the card on the ad account if you see spend you did not approve.
3. Check "Ad account roles" in account settings and note anyone you do not recognise.
4. Contact Meta Support straight away, as the hacked portfolio page advises, and say plainly what changed and when.
5. Only then follow any "Secure your account" or "Request review" step that Business Support Home shows.

## Instagram Ad Account Disabled: Why the Fix Is on the Meta Side

If you boost posts from Instagram, you are spending through a Meta ad account. Instagram's page on [troubleshooting boosting and ads](https://help.instagram.com/1049406878442523/) says that when you boost from a professional account, Instagram may ask you to log into Facebook to connect a Facebook ad account. So when that ad account is disabled, the review happens in Business Support Home, not in the Instagram app.

Some Instagram errors look like a disable but are not. The same page lists messages such as "Something went wrong. Ad payment info is unavailable. Please try again later." Instagram also says you need a professional account and must be over 16 to create ads. Check which ad account is linked and look up its status before you assume the worst.

## Evidence to Gather Before You Request a Review

The review form gives you little space, so gather this first.

- Screenshots of the notice and the Business Support Home status, with the date and the reason visible.
- The ad account ID, the business portfolio ID and the Page linked to the ads.
- Receipts from Payment activity in Billing and payments, plus the last four digits of the card on the account.
- Your business registration documents, in case Meta asks you to complete verification.
- The ads and landing page that were running, and a note of what you changed after the disable.
- For a hack: login alerts, emails about new admins, and bank messages about charges you did not make.
- A three or four sentence explanation you can paste in if a text box appears.

## Mistakes That Use Up Your Review

- Requesting a review before you have fixed the ad or landing page the reason points to.
- Appealing a policy decision when the real problem is an unpaid balance or a hacked admin.
- Opening new ad accounts or new business portfolios to keep advertising. It does nothing for the account under review and can look like an attempt to get around the restriction.
- Relying on a single admin. Meta says that when a person is restricted from advertising, ad accounts where they are the only user may also be disabled.
- Waiting months to act and running into the six-month limit.
- Paying an agency or stranger who says they can reactivate the account through a contact at Meta.

> Warning: **Fake Meta messages follow every disable.** Scammers send emails and Messenger notes that look like Meta's own warnings, with a link to "appeal" your ad account. The real review lives in Business Support Home, reached by typing the address yourself. Meta does not need your password, login code or bank OTP. If you already paid a so-called unban service or shared a code, call the National Scam Response Centre on 997 as soon as you can, contact your bank and make a police report.

The [NSRC 997 hotline page](https://www.malaysia.gov.my/en/categories/safety-and-community/cybersecurity/nsrc-997-hotline) asks victims to call within 24 hours so banks can block transactions. For a phishing page that copies Meta, you can also report it to CyberSecurity Malaysia's [Cyber999 incident response centre](https://www.cybersecurity.my/portal-main/services/cyber999-overview). Our breakdown of [the fake Meta support scam](https://www.awarexone.com/research/fake-meta-support-scam-malaysia) shows what these messages look like.

## What If Meta Rejects the Review?

A rejected review usually means the decision on that ad account is final. Before you accept it, check three things. Was the disable really about policy, or was a failed payment or a hacked admin behind it? Did you review the right asset: the ad account, your own profile, or the business portfolio? And did Business Support Home ask for a step, such as identity confirmation, that you skipped?

If none of those apply, accept that this ad account may not come back. Download your receipts and campaign reports, and do not build replacement accounts. Protect what remains: Meta's hacked portfolio page recommends two-factor authentication for all users and the Security Checkup in your portfolio settings.

## When Expert Recovery Help Makes Sense

Most payment disables and many policy reviews can be handled alone. A second opinion helps when the ad account carries your sales, when a hack and a disable are tangled together, or when your one review has already been used and you are not sure whether anything official is left. SocialSafe by AwareXone, our recovery service, looks at the notices and what has already been tried, then tells you honestly whether a route is still open. Our [Business Manager recovery service](https://www.awarexone.com/business-manager-recovery) explains how that works, and our [Trust Center](https://www.awarexone.com/trust) sets out what we will never ask for, including your password and codes.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How long does Meta take to review a disabled ad account?

Meta says a restriction review is typically completed in 48 hours, although some take longer. Watch Business Support Home and the admin's email rather than resubmitting.

### Can I get my disabled ad account back after six months?

Not if it was disabled for a policy violation. Meta says an ad account that stays ineligible for reinstatement for six months cannot be reinstated, and unused prepaid services may be forfeited where the law allows.

### Why was my ad account disabled when I never ran an ad?

Meta also restricts accounts for unusual activity, suspected hacking and missing two-factor authentication, not only for ads. Check Billing and payments and the ad account roles for activity you did not start.

### Will my ads restart automatically after the account is reinstated?

No. Meta says ads that were running before the restriction will not restart on their own, so you need to turn them back on in Ads Manager. After a payment disable, Meta says it resumes active or scheduled ads once the balance is paid.

### Can AwareXone reactivate my ad account?

No. Only Meta can reinstate an ad account. SocialSafe by AwareXone can review your case and help you prepare a clear request through Meta's own tools, but Meta makes the decision.
