## Short answer

Log in to Discord with your email and password within 15 days of deleting the account. Discord will say the account is pending deletion; select Restore Account to cancel it. If you forgot the password, reset it first. After 15 days, Discord says the account is deleted and cannot be restored. Accounts removed for bans need an appeal instead.

## Summary

- A deleted Discord account stays pending deletion for 15 days before it is removed.
- Log in within 15 days and select Restore Account to cancel the deletion.
- Discord Support cannot speed up deletion, and deleted accounts cannot be restored after 15 days.
- Accounts deleted because they were banned or disabled cannot be restored; appeal instead.
- Accounts inactive for two years or more may be scheduled for deletion.

Deleting a Discord account does not happen instantly. Discord holds the account in a pending deletion state for 15 days, and during that time you can change your mind by logging in. After that, the deletion is permanent. This guide explains how the window works, how to restore an account, the difference between disabling and deleting, and what to do if you think someone else deleted your account.

## How does Discord account deletion work?

Discord says deletions take 15 days to process, and its Support Team cannot speed this up. When you confirm deletion, you are logged out straight away and the account enters a pending deletion state. Once the 15 days end, the account is deleted from Discord's system and the deletion is irreversible ([Discord Support](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/212500837-How-to-Delete-your-Discord-Account)).

Discord lists what happens after deletion: you lose access to your servers, direct messages, group messages and purchases, subscriptions such as Nitro and Server Boosts are cancelled, servers you owned continue under a new owner you choose, and your account is anonymised across servers and messages.

## How do I restore my account?

Discord gives these steps ([Discord Support](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003114091-How-to-Restore-Your-Deleted-Discord-Account)):

1. Open Discord on desktop, in a browser or in the mobile app.
2. Enter your account's login details.
3. Discord shows that the account is pending deletion. Select Restore Account.
4. You are taken back into your restored account.

> Warning: **15 days only.** Discord says that if the 15-day period has passed and the app no longer shows the account as pending deletion, the account has already been deleted and cannot be restored.

## Common situations and what Discord says

| Situation | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| You deleted it and are within 15 days | Log in and select Restore Account |
| You forgot the password | Reset the password, then log in and restore |
| You asked Support to delete it and changed your mind | Follow up with Discord's Support Team |
| You cannot log in and think someone else is involved | Contact Discord's Support Team |
| It was deleted after a ban or disable by Discord | You cannot restore it; submit an appeal to Trust and Safety |
| More than 15 days have passed | The account cannot be restored |

Each of these comes from Discord's restore guide ([Discord Support](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003114091-How-to-Restore-Your-Deleted-Discord-Account)).

## What is the difference between disabling and deleting?

Discord says disabling puts your account on hold. You can reactivate it by logging in and choosing Restore Account. While disabled you do not receive notifications, but friend requests wait for you. Deleting schedules the account for permanent deletion, which cannot be undone once complete ([Discord Support](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004066391-How-Do-I-Disable-My-Account)).

If you only want a break, disabling is the safer option. Discord notes that disabled accounts inactive for two years or more may still be deleted, so log back in from time to time if you want to keep yours.

## What about inactive accounts?

Discord says accounts inactive and unused for two years or more will be scheduled for deletion, and you may be told through the email or phone number on the account. Keeping your contact details current means you are more likely to see that notice.

## What if someone else deleted my account?

If you did not delete the account, act within the 15 days. Try to log in and restore it. If the password was changed, reset it. If you still cannot get in and suspect a compromise, Discord says to contact its Support Team. Once back in, change your password, check your multi-factor authentication and review authorised apps. Our guide on [Discord scams and hacked accounts](https://www.awarexone.com/research/discord-account-hacked-nitro-scam) covers those steps.

## A short checklist for restoring

1. Note the date the account was deleted and count 15 days from it.
2. Open Discord and try to log in with the account's email and password.
3. If you forgot the password, reset it from the login screen first.
4. When the pending deletion notice appears, select Restore Account.
5. If the notice does not appear and 15 days have passed, the account has been deleted.
6. If Support deleted the account at your request, follow up with Support instead.
7. If Discord banned or disabled the account, submit an appeal to Trust and Safety rather than trying to restore it.

## Things to check after restoring

Discord says deletion cancels subscriptions such as Nitro and Server Boosts and transfers owned servers. Once you are back in, check your subscriptions, the servers you own and your connected apps, and confirm your email address and phone number are current so you receive any future notices about your account. If the deletion was not yours, change your password and review multi-factor authentication straight away.

Remember that Discord's Support Team cannot speed deletion up or reverse it once complete, so the 15 days are the only window you have. If you are unsure whether the account was deleted or disabled, logging in will show you which state it is in, because both show the Restore Account option while they can still be undone.

## Common mistakes

- Waiting more than 15 days before trying to log in.
- Asking Support to speed up or reverse a completed deletion, which Discord says it cannot do.
- Deleting an account when disabling would have been enough.
- Trying to restore an account removed for a ban instead of appealing.

## Watch out for recovery scams

Discord's own settings, help pages and forms are the official routes. Anyone who messages you offering to restore or unlock your account, or who asks for your password, codes or recovery details, is not part of that process. Never share them. Our guide on [spotting fake recovery services](https://www.awarexone.com/research/account-recovery-scams-how-to-spot-fake-recovery-services) lists the warning signs.

## What are the realistic limits?

Discord sets the 15-day window and says deleted accounts cannot be restored after it. Accounts removed by Discord for rule breaches go through appeals rather than restoration. For disabled accounts, see [Discord account disabled](https://www.awarexone.com/research/discord-account-disabled), and if two-factor authentication is stopping you logging in to restore, see [Discord two-factor lockout](https://www.awarexone.com/research/discord-two-factor-backup-codes-lost).
