## Short answer

Open the alerts on your AdSense Payments page, because Google says they hold the steps to remove a hold. If the PIN has not arrived, check identity verification, your address and the wait time on Google's PIN page before requesting a replacement.

## Summary

- Google's AdSense page says holds have common reasons, such as missing tax information, unverified identity or address, no payment method, or a self-hold.
- The PIN troubleshooting page lists reasons a PIN has not arrived, including identity not verified and an address that cannot receive standard mail.
- Google's pages give a wait time for the PIN mailer before you can ask for a replacement. Read the exact figure on the page.
- Google's pages say three wrong PIN entries stop ads, and ads stop if the address is not verified in time. Check the page.
- Open the Payments page alerts first. One wrong step with your address or PIN can stop ads, so know what you are doing before you start.

The AdSense Payments page shows a hold, or it asks for a PIN that was supposed to arrive by post. You have waited, checked the letterbox and refreshed the page, and the money you earned from your videos or blog is stuck behind a step you cannot see.

This guide follows Google's own AdSense help pages. It explains the hold reasons Google lists, the PIN problems table, the replacement PIN steps and what the pages say about ads stopping. We are not Google and we cannot release a payment. We will not quote money amounts, because thresholds depend on your account and location. Read your own figures in the official pages.

## Why Is My AdSense Payment on Hold?

Google's [Common AdSense payment hold issues](https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/1714364) page says common reasons include submitting tax information and verifying your identity or address. It tells you to visit your AdSense payments page and review any alerts, and says the alerts often contain instructions on how to resolve the problem. If your payments are on hold, you will see an alert on the Payments page, and clicking it shows the steps to remove the hold.

| Hold reason | What the page says to do |
| --- | --- |
| Tax information not submitted | If your payment address is in a country where Google requires certain tax information, submit it to Google |
| Identity not verified | Verify your identity |
| Address not verified | Request a PIN in the mail, then enter it to verify your payment address |
| No form of payment set up | Check the minimum payment method selection threshold, then set up your form of payment |
| Self-hold on the account | If you chose to pause payments, remove the self-hold to begin receiving payments again |
| Compliance hold, information request | If the Google Payments team asked you to verify personal information, follow the steps in the alert in your Google payments centre |
| Compliance hold, policy review | Google says that while an account is under investigation, payments are temporarily held. You do not need to take action, and the hold is removed automatically at the end of the investigation if the account is compliant and the traffic is valid |

Start with the alert and not with a guess. The page also says you may find holds for other payments-related issues, which is why the alert on your own Payments page is the real list for your account.

## How Does the PIN Process Work?

Google's [Address verification (PIN) overview](https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/157667) page says Google requires you to verify your payments address before it can send you any payments. When your earnings reach the verification threshold, Google sends a unique 6-digit PIN to your payments address through international standard mail. It does not provide a tracking number for the PIN mail, so the address must be able to receive standard mail.

The page adds that depending on your location you may not need address verification if you have already passed online identity verification, and that you can click Payments, then Verification check, to find out whether you are required to complete it. It also says that if Google has asked you to verify your identity, it will not send your PIN until you have completed that.

The verification threshold is an amount of earnings that can vary by location. We do not give a figure. If no PIN notification shows on your homepage, the troubleshooting page says to wait until your balance reaches the verification threshold.

## Why Has My PIN Mailer Not Arrived?

Google's [Fix problems with AdSense address verification (PIN)](https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/9668823?hl=en) page has a table of reasons. We have paraphrased it below:

| Possible reason | What the page says to check or do |
| --- | --- |
| You have not verified your identity | Submit your ID under Payments, then Verification check. The PIN is only sent after identity verification succeeds |
| The account has not reached the verification threshold | Look for a PIN notification on your AdSense homepage. If there is none, wait until your balance reaches the threshold |
| The address is linked to fraudulent activity | Check for an address notification, update to a different address, then request your PIN after the new address is verified |
| You have not waited the full time since the last PIN request | The page says PIN mail can take up to 3 weeks. Check when the PIN was generated on the Verification check page |
| The address cannot receive standard mail | Change it to one that can, wait the stated time from the last PIN mailing, then request a replacement |

For a Malaysian publisher, the pages do not name Malaysia, and they do not give a Malaysia-specific delivery time. They say a valid payments address is one that can receive standard mail, and give a format with house or block number, street, district, city, unit or building name and postcode. They also say your address should match the country or territory you chose when you signed up. Check that your address is complete, and that the letterbox or building receives ordinary post.

## How Do I Request a Replacement PIN?

Google's [How to request a replacement PIN](https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/1348257) page says you can request a replacement if you have not received your PIN after 3 weeks. It notes that PINs are typically delivered within 2 to 4 weeks after mailing, and that delivery times can vary depending on your location. The pages we read give slightly different wording for the wait, so rely on the page you are looking at and the date of your own request.

1. Check your payments address. It should be accurate, up to date, match your account country or territory, and be able to receive standard mail.
2. Check with your local mail service that your mail is not being forwarded, and that no mail is being held for you. The page says PINs can sometimes be held up at the post office.
3. Sign in to AdSense, click Payments, then Verification check, then Resend PIN.

The page says you can only request a new PIN every 3 weeks, and that only payments admin users can update the payments address. It also says the replacement PIN is a duplicate of the original, so if the original arrives first you may use it. If you have requested the 4th replacement PIN and still have nothing after 3 weeks, it points to the PIN troubleshooter.

## What Happens If I Enter the PIN Wrongly or Miss the Deadline?

Google's PIN pages state two limits. If you enter your PIN incorrectly 3 times, your account stops showing ads, and the troubleshooting page says that you can reset the limit by requesting a replacement PIN. And you have 4 months from the date your PIN is generated to complete address verification. After that, the overview page says Google will stop showing ads on your pages, and the troubleshooting page says you can contact Google to extend the timeline. So copy the 6-digit number exactly as printed, and enter it only in your own AdSense account.

## What the Pages Do Not Say

The pages we read do not say why your particular account has a hold, and they do not give a date when it will be lifted. They do not say how long a compliance review takes. They do not name Malaysia or give a Malaysian postal time. They do not say that an extension will be granted when you contact Google. We do not know your outcome, and we will not guess.

## When It Is Safer to Get Expert Help

Some holds clear on their own once you act on the alert, and the official steps come first. The risks are plain. Google's pages say three wrong PIN entries stop ads and that an unverified address after the stated period stops ads on your pages. An address that cannot receive standard mail, or one that was updated after the PIN was mailed, can send the PIN to the wrong place. Strangers may also offer to release a hold or sell you a PIN, which is a red flag. The pages describe your own AdSense Payments page as the route, and no one needs your password. Our guide to [spotting fake recovery services](https://www.awarexone.com/research/account-recovery-scams-how-to-spot-fake-recovery-services) lists the signs.

If you are unsure about any step, or the earnings matter for your income or business, handing the case to an experienced team such as AwareXone is the safer choice. We can help you read the alerts, check your address details and word your message to Google. We never ask for your password. See our [business and creator account help](https://www.awarexone.com/services/business-creator-recovery) page, and use the Apply for Case Review button at the end of this guide.

## When a Case Review Makes Sense

If the hold has no clear reason, the PIN troubleshooter has run out of steps, or ads have already stopped, a review can help you organise the details before you contact Google. SocialSafe by AwareXone is a Malaysia-based service, independent of Google, that helps you use the official routes. We never ask for your password or login codes, and we cannot change Google's decisions. See how we work on our [trust page](https://www.awarexone.com/trust). If the problem is a disabled AdSense account and not a hold, our guide on [AdSense disabled for invalid traffic](https://www.awarexone.com/research/youtube-adsense-disabled-invalid-traffic) covers that.
